Pancakes at FES
Mr. Page, Mrs. Fayant and Mrs. Proulx make pancakes for our kiddos. Please see your classes time and date! We make sure we follow all allergies as we do have gluten and dairy free options on specific days.
Dates may change and if so, will be communicated by classroom teachers.
We kindly remind all parents and guardians to communicate this requirement to their children, emphasizing the importance of wearing indoor shoes. By adhering to this policy, we not only contribute to the longevity of our gymnasium floor but also foster a clean and well-maintained environment throughout our school. It is our aim to treat our educational facilities with the same care and respect that we extend to our own homes.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. We greatly appreciate your dedication to the upkeep of our school facilities and the overall well-being of our students.
If families need help with the purchase of shoes, please contact the principal, Mr. Page.
TECHNOLOGY AT SCHOOL
At FES, we highly value the integration of technology in education as a tool to enhance and empower student learning with the understanding that they will be used responsibly and respectfully. It is essential that these devices contribute positively to their educational experience.
We kindly remind students to adhere to the School District’s Acceptable Use of Technology Policy while utilizing their devices on campus. This policy is in place to ensure a safe and productive learning environment for everyone. This guideline is aimed at fostering a more immersive and interactive learning environment.
Thank you for your cooperation and understanding in promoting responsible technology use among our students. Together, we can create a positive and constructive learning environment at FES.
We have a 3 strike policy for technology used while on school grounds. This is in our Code Of Conduct and it will be reviewed in all classrooms. This includes video games, phones, smart watches etc.
Program: This free, drop-in early childhood program is open to parents and caregivers of children 0 to 5 years. For more information about StrongStart, click the link.
It is important that families and their kids are checking these platforms at least once a week.
GOOGLE CLASSROOM
In our intermediate classes, we will continue with Google classroom. All 4-7 students need to be signed up with G Suite, which allows students access to school technology. Families are encouraged to check due dates, assignments and other information daily on Google Classroom.
We are delighted to extend a warm invitation to each and every one of you for our upcoming event on February 12th! Bundle up in your coziest snow suits, as we have an exciting day planned for all.
To add to the festivities, we'll have the fire department on hand, creating a cozy atmosphere with some propane fires. Get ready for a friendly competition with our snowman contest, where creativity knows no bounds. And the best part? We're serving up FREE hot dogs and hot chocolate to keep everyone toasty and satisfied.
This event is not just for us; it's for the whole school and community. So, please spread the word and bring along your friends and family to share in the joy.
We're honored to welcome esteemed guests, including the village council and other community figures dedicated to supporting families in our community. Their presence adds a special touch to this gathering.
Mark your calendars, because we can't wait to see all of your smiling faces on February 12th! Let's come together for a day of warmth, camaraderie, and community spirit.
Parking and Driving in the School Zone
We are expecting an increase in student drop-offs in the morning and after school. Parents picking up/dropping off children are asked to do so:
1) At the back of the school at the bottom of the stairs
2) Across the street at the church
3) Across the footbridge by the manor.
Adhering to these guidelines will ensure all student safety. Also, please use extreme caution when pulling in or backing out.
In addition, for the safety of all our students, please do not pick up or drop off your children inside our school bus zone. We want all of our students to be safe. You can help us by reminding your friends and neighbours that the speed limit around the school is 30 km/h, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on school days. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Students are also walking to curling, skating or to other community areas. To keep all our kids safe, please follow these guidelines. We encourage other FES families to help other families to be reminded of the expectations. We will be communicating with the village and police to increase proximity around these times.
Welcome back! It is 2026 and we are thrilled to have a great start to a new year.
The Winter Concert was a major success. Thank you all students, families and staff for working hard to make this concert a success.
* Common Language: At FES, we discuss weekly goals in our school as well as review what is Grit, Resilience, Perseverance, and Self Compassion. We aim to have these conversations daily in our classrooms and reinforcing them at home is a good way to set up students for success. "When we know the rules, we can play the game".
Our behaviour matrix allows all students and staff have a common language in our building. Our morning announcements, positive rewards, and our expected and unexpected behaviour is rooted here. Students are expected to be proud learners, respectful, safe, and be responsible at FES.
Parents of children who turn 5 years old between January 1 and December 31, should plan to register their child for Kindergarten during Kindergarten registration week, January 26 - January 30, 2026.
Please see this document if you have any questions!
Also, HERE is important information from Interior Health to consider when registering your child for Kindergarten.
Have Your Say: Year-Round, Multi-Sport Facility Study
Kootenay South Youth Soccer Association (KSYSA) is exploring the feasibility of a year-round, multi-sport facility to support students, families, and community groups across SD20. Many sports and schools struggle to find winter and indoor space — this project aims to understand what the region needs most.

NUTRITION - School Food Environment
The food environment includes foods that are offered at school, as well students’ eating experiences. Students do best when they have positive role models, and when foods offered both in and outside classrooms are in line with healthy eating messages.
For parents:
Vegetables: A kid-friendly approach
FINANCIAL SUPPORT
At FES, we believe that no student will be denied access to programs, services or educational opportunities provided by the school because of financial need. Parents, caregivers or families needing school related financial aid (school/District fees, field-trips, school supplies, etc.) are asked to contact the Principal to make arrangements so that ALL our students have equal access to all the educational opportunities offered.
MEALS PROGRAM
FES will continue to provide nutritious lunches for students in need through the School Meals Program. Parents who wish their child to take part in this program can contact the Principal [fruitvale@sd20.bc.ca].
HEALTHY SNACKS
While ‘treats’ are nice, it is important to send healthy foods and drinks to school. For PE and regular water hydration, due to COVID-19, our water fountains as bottle fillers work great. We do have bottle filling stations and encourage all students to have a re-fillable bottle.
Metal or 'Eco' friendly plastic bottles are preferred for safety considerations.
Thank you for your cooperation with this.
