Informal Learning Update - Week of Nov. 3-7 FES Food Drive - Week of Nov. 3-7
Hello Fruitvale Falcon families. We have made changes last year in the terminology: what was previously known as "report cards" will now be referred to as "formal learning updates," and "interim report cards" will be called "informal learning updates."
Furthermore, we are excited to share that all students will be engaging in goal setting three times a year, aligning with each term. In addition, we will be sending home a core competency assessment each term, focusing on three essential areas: communication, thinking, and personal and social skills. For more details about core competencies, please visit this link: [Link Here]
Informal Learning Update - November 3-7. You may receive the following communication from teachers, but not limited to: face to face meeting, learning update sent home, posted on Google Classroom or a phone call and email.
The purpose of learning updates is to describe the level of academic achievement, life skills and social emotional growth that a student has shown over the course of a year or term. We highly encourage families to engage with these learning updates as they can spark some great conversations with your child.
Also, please read more information HERE about combined classes.
Cross Country Run!
October 2nd at 9:30am
Come join us at our OPEN HOUSE!
Please read up on more information if you are a interested. Please be aware that a product like Nutella contains nuts. Thank you for helping keep our student safe and comfortable.
We kindly remind all parents and guardians to communicate this requirement to their children, emphasizing the importance of wearing indoor shoes. By adhering to this policy, we not only contribute to the longevity of our gymnasium floor but also foster a clean and well-maintained environment throughout our school. It is our aim to treat our educational facilities with the same care and respect that we extend to our own homes.
Thank you for your cooperation in this matter. We greatly appreciate your dedication to the upkeep of our school facilities and the overall well-being of our students.
If families need help with the purchase of shoes, please contact the principal, Mr. Page.

On Friday, October 31st, K-7 students are invited to wear their Halloween costumes to school for our “Halloween Costume/Black & Orange Day.” In keeping with the spirit of Halloween, we wish the children to have as much fun as possible, but we ask that costumes do not advocate or depict violence (no guns, knives, and no bloody faces, arms, etc.). Please wear appropriate clothing for a school setting and be respectful of others. Masks, blow up costumes or costumes that hide the face can be worn, however not during instructional time. Also, please refrain from sending candy to school the following week.
Program: This free, drop-in early childhood program is open to parents and caregivers of children 0 to 5 years. For more information about StrongStart, click the link.
All orders will be done through PAC and this website fes.parentcouncil.net. Also, your orders are due a week prior to each hot lunch date. Any questions can be sent to pacfruitvale@gmail.com
Families, please sign up on the website above to register your child to be able to book hot lunch, as well as other important emails from PAC. You will need to sign up with your child's teacher/division to register as well.
Kindergarten families can sign up once they have an assigned teacher.
E-NEWSLETTER
To help us conserve paper, families will access our monthly newsletters through our school website. A reminder e-mail will be sent out each month once they are posted on our school’s website.
PICKING UP STUDENTS
Parents and caregivers, if you are arranging play dates or if you see a child whom you are taking home and their parents aren't aware of, please contact the school and/or alert their parents. It takes a village to keep our kids safe and we are thankful for the families in our community.
If you are arranging play dates for after school please ensure you organize after school transportation. Students will not be able to take a bus that is not assigned to them.
At Fruitvale Elementary, we believe that no student will be denied access to programs, services, or educational opportunities provided by the school because of financial need. Parents, caregivers, or families needing school related financial aid (school/district fees, field trips, school supplies etc) are asked to contact the Principal of the school to discuss the circumstances and make arrangements so that ALL students have equal access to all the educational opportunities offered.
TOYS FROM HOME AT SCHOOL
At FES we encourage toys from home to stay at home. We have had some toys damaged or gone missing. If these are used for sensory, these need to be used in the classroom and the teacher will co-create specific needs for certain FES students.
SCHOOL PHONE
The phone at the school for students to use if kids have staff permission to call home. We will not be allowing students to use the phone to make play dates or other pieces that should be prearranged. Please talk to your children about this.
In our intermediate classes, we will continue with Google classroom. All K-7 students need to be signed up with G Suite, which allows students access to school technology. Families are encouraged to check due dates, assignments and other information daily on Google Classroom.
Families now should regularly be in their child's Google Classroom.
Family Groups
Throughout the school year, our Family Groups will be multi-aged groups where all staff will be supporting students and the goal is to bring a sense of multi-age community into our school. Activities that will take place will range from team building to academic activities throughout the school year. Staff will be collaborating to bring team building into our classes as we haven't had this opportunity in a while. The first one is happening on October 1st for Orange Shirt Day.
Common Literacy at FES
After a very successful few years of SPARK (Supporting Proficiency and Reading Knowledge - primary), we will be continuing with the initiative this school year! We will be having reading groups for students from grades 1 to 3/4. The groups are about meeting students where they are at in reading instead of a specific grade level.
We understand the importance of nurturing our students' literacy skills. In addition to the daily literacy activities that students are receiving from their classroom teacher, students will meet with a group four times a week based on their specific reading needs. Students were placed in groups based on assessments completed by staff. As the students progress, the topics covered by their reading teacher changes throughout the year. As well, students’ may change groups to best accommodate their needs.
Thank you for entrusting us with your child's education, and we are excited about the bright future that SPARK will help them achieve.
FES Dance is for grade 6-7 students.
OCTOBER 9th
$8 per student & bring change for snacks.
No phones or water bottles allowed.
Enjoy and have fun!
For the health of all students, District protocol requires all students to go straight home after school.
Staying and playing on our fields (as much as we would love to see that) is not permitted. As well, please ensure your child knows “the plan” for what to do/where to go/who is picking them up after school (going with a friend, taking the bus, etc.) – a note in their agenda is helpful.
All play dates should be arranged prior to coming to school or after your child has arrived home. There is no student phone this year (due to health protocols) so it is essential that your child knows their after school plan before leaving home in themorning. Please review these procedures with your child.
*If there are unexpected changes to your child’s afterschool pickup/bus arrangements, etc., please contact the office directly (emails directly to staff are sometimes not read in time).
We are expecting an increase in student drop-offs in the morning and after school. Parents picking up/dropping off children are asked to do so:
1) At the back of the school at the bottom of the stairs
2) Across the street at the church
3) Across the footbridge by the manor.
Adhering to these guidelines will ensure all student safety. Also, please use extreme caution when pulling in or backing out.
In addition, for the safety of all our students, please do not pick up or drop off your children inside our school bus zone. We want all of our students to be safe. You can help us by reminding your friends and neighbours that the speed limit around the school is 30 km/h, 8:00 am to 5:00 pm on school days. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
At FES we encourage students to be active and ride their bikes and scooters to school. Once at school, the scooters and bikes need to be walked to the bike racks at the front entrance and by the stairs down below. Bikes and scooters cannot be ridden on school property. They must be walked or pushed off premises before riding. This will help to keep all kids at FES safe.
Our water bottle filling stations are open. We encourage students at FES to bring water bottles that can be refilled. Just another nice thing PAC has done for our school!
We are starting to see an increase of sugar or energy drinks brought to school. We encourage students to bring water .
