I coordinate the services we provide, supervise Support Center staff, and collaborate with other school staff and community partner organizations. Above all, my goal is to create a safe space where everyone feels heard, understood and valued. I work directly with many students and parents/guardians -- the favorite part of my job! Every day is a new opportunity for me to make meaningful interpersonal connections and work together to achieve positive change.
Outside of work, I love to hike and explore nature, ride my bike, read fiction, and spend time with my family and friends.

Hi! I am the School Social Worker. I provide social, emotional and mental health support to students. This means I help students develop the skills and strategies needed to manage their emotions, build healthy connections, and navigate the challenges they encounter both in and out of school. Whether it is one-on-one counseling or group sessions, my goal is to empower students with the coping skills and resilience they need to thrive in school and in their personal well-being. I also work closely with caregivers/guardians. I offer guidance, linkage to community resources, and most importantly, work collaboratively to improve the social-emotional challenges their children may be facing.

I have been a nurse for 14 years. Six of those years were spent at the old Sutter Memorial Hospital in the pediatric department. They always gave me the teenaged patients because I connected with them. I loved my time there and learned so much but the reason I got into nursing was to promote wellness and work with people to prevent disease. From chatting with students about life choices to finding resources for families and our school community, high school nursing is my jam.
In my free time I love to be outside chatting with friends and family, hiking through the mountains and seeing live music. I also really like to cook simple, healthy meals while singing and dancing in my kitchen.

Being a mental health advocate means that I am here to bridge that gap between education and mental health services. I help families and students gain access to outside resources, communicate with school staff, develop academic support plans, and provide social and emotional support for students. I strive to connect with the Johnson community and equip both students and families with the tools they need to thrive.
Outside of the office you will often find me hiking and exploring, going to the drive-in movie theater, and spending time with my friends and family.

Hello, My name is Erma Freeman, I have been a Health Aide for SCUSD since 2001. I found my home at Hiram Johnson in January 2023 in the Student Support Center. I provide health services for students with medical needs in the Special Education community as well as serve students who are just not feeling well.
In my free time I enjoy laughing, grilling, and playing pool with my family and close friends, fishing at the river, and watching a good movie. Fun Fact about me is that I bungee-jumped off the Stratosphere in Las Vegas which is a 829 foot fall.

Ameshia followed her heart and unique skill set into her career as a professional therapist. Ameshia graduated from San Francisco State University to pursue an elementary school teaching career in high-need areas. After some time as a teacher, Ameshia realized that before the youth and adults could pursue education, they would need to be supported in connecting to resources and therapy for trauma and stress. With this insight, Ameshia pursued a degree in social work at CSU Sacramento. Once Ameshia obtained her Master of Social Work, she worked in a variety of communities. Ameshia found great success in helping clients solve problems and have a better quality of life.

Hello! My name is Beatriz (Betty), and I look forward to working with students and families this school year. I am a second-year Social Work Master's level intern at The Ohio State University. My passion for helping children and adolescents reach their full potential led me to school social work. High school is filled with experiences that are exciting yet challenging. To help navigate this period of life I strive to provide a safe and welcoming space for students to promote and manage social, emotional, and mental health needs.
In my free time, I enjoy camping, exploring new swimming holes, spending time with my family and two cats, and relaxing by the ocean.
