The PE Department emphasizes personal responsibility, time management, and confident decision making. Integrity and accountability are core principles taught to help develop students into classmates that others can trust, respect, and depend on. Students are expected to show respect for themselves and others, while positively contributing to the Miwok Middle School community. Inappropriate behavior, actions, and foul language will not be tolerated.
The PE Department teaches a curriculum that offers a variety of activities which are team-based and individual. Students may have the opportunity to participate in some of the following:
Team - Basketball, Combo Ball, Disc Sports, Flag Football, Hockey, Lacrosse, Non-Traditional Games, Rugby, Soccer, Softball, Volleyball
Individual - Bowling, Cardio Fit, Dance, Fun Fitness, Golf, Leisure Games, Pickleball, Self-Defense, Speed Strength Training, Table Tennis
Be on time to the locker room lines, students will be marked tardy if they arrive late. There will be five minutes after the tardy bell for students to change into their PE uniform, use the restroom, and dispose of their gum. Students will be dismissed to 'Roll Call' in the gym, where they will sit quietly to have attendance marked.
Students will participate in training workouts throughout the school year. These are typically completed every Thursday, but may occur more frequently depending on weather and school schedules. Various Runs, Tabata Sets, HIIT Workouts, Cardio Dance, and Relaxation sessions are some of the possibilities on fitness training days.
The daily exercise routine consists of a dynamic warm up, strength conditioning, and cardiovascular training. Students are to follow the exercise routine with precision, execute the movements with effort, and complete daily runs to the best of their ability.
Upon dismissal by their teacher, students will have five minutes at the end of class to change back into their school clothes and use the restroom. PE clothes should not be worn outside of PE class. Students will be dismissed from the locker room and proceed to their next class.
The Locker Room is an extension of the PE classroom which also includes the main gym, activity rooms, the grass field, blacktops, quad area, and occasionally the cafeteria. The expectation is that students abide and follow the below guidelines and carry themselves in a respectful demeanor with exemplary manners.
1. Cell Phone/Electronic use is strictly prohibited at all times. (Including cameras.)
2. Personal items of value should be locked in PE lockers during class time. The PE Department is not responsible for lost or stolen items.
3. No food, drinks, or gum. (Water bottles with secure lids are okay.)
4. Students must keep their hands/bodies to themselves. Horseplay, touching others, and unsafe behavior is absolutely unacceptable.
5. “Pantsing” is strictly prohibited.
6. Students will wear their own PE attire and change in their assigned PE locker area. No sharing clothes, no sharing shoes, no sharing lockers, no sharing locker combinations.
7. No graffiti, stickers, decorations, etc. in the locker rooms.
8. Glass containers are prohibited in all PE spaces.
9. No body paint allowed in the locker rooms, especially on spirit days.
10. Students are not allowed in the locker room during class time. Any items needed for class (water, parent notes, inhalers, etc.) must be brought with student to Roll Call.
11. Students are to remain under the supervision of PE Teachers at all times. If a circumstance occurs, student must ask permission from PE Teacher to leave class.
