The potato is a starchy, tuberous crop from the perennial nightshade Solanum tuberosum. Potato refers to the edible tuber, but it can also refer to the plant itself Today they are a staple food in many parts of the world
Potatoes require a cool but frost free growing season.
P
Plant potatoes in full sun. Potatoes require a cool but frost-free growing season of 75 to 135 or more days. The ideal potato growing temperature is 7°C to 27°C. Hot weather will reduce the number of tubers per plant.
Plant potatoes in a hole or trench 4 inches deep and cover with 2 inches of soil. When sprouts emerge, add the remaining 2 inches of soil to the hole or trench. Sow seed potatoes 30 to 45 cm apart; space rows 60 to 90cm apart. Potatoes also can be planted on top of the ground if covered with a 12-inch thick mulch of straw or hay.
Keep potatoes evenly moist but not wet; water before the soil dries out. Mulch to conserve soil moisture, prevent the soil from becoming too warm, and to keep the weeds down.
Since exposure to light leads to an undesirable greening of the skins and the development of solanine as a protection from the sun's rays, growers cover surface tubers. by piling additional soil around the base of the plant as it grows (called "hilling" up, or in British English "earthing up”) or covering the growing area with organic mulches such as straw or plastic sheets
Full moon is the best.
Depending on when you planted.
A potato plant will produce 3 to 6 regular-size potatoes and a number of small ones.
