Cucumber is a vegetable belonging to the Cucurbitaceae family, originally from India. It is a creeping or climbing plant when it finds supports, to which it sticks. The quadrangular stem is hairy with more or less evident ribs. The leaves, rather large, with long petioles, are dark green and rough. The five-lobed yellow flowers are not very large. The fruit is similar to that of the courgette.
The best time to sow cucumbers is from the end of the winter season to the beginning of the spring season; in areas where the climate is particularly mild, sowing can be delayed until the beginning of May.
Cucumbers should be sown with the waning moon and must be harvested with the crescent moon - first quarter.
The cucumber harvest begins around the middle of July and lasts until the end of the following month. In case the sowing was carried out at the beginning of May, the harvest can be done until the end of the month of September.
