SCUC Traits of a GraduateSelf Motivated ~ Future Ready ~ Service Oriented ~ Skilled Communicator ~ Dynamic Leader

We hope you and your family are well during this time of new challenges that we are all facing. We have an incredible community, and we believe that although we are being faced with a situation unlike any most of us have ever seen, we are strong and are all committed to what is best for our students and families, and we will learn to navigate it together.

The link provided below, called "Rooted in Love", contains a brief video about the emotions many of us are experiencing and things we can focus on to process these times and deal with them in the most positive way possible:

We want to share positive messages to help us all through this time, and we have created the board below to post these inspiring messages. We invite you to join us by adding a positive message that you feel would uplift others. Just click on the pink "+" button, type your message and click outside the box. It will then show up on our wall below.

If your student normally receives free or reduced lunches, the district is still providing this service to those who need it. A drive through pickup for that has been set up at Schertz Elementary School, 701 Curtiss St, Schertz, TX 78154. SCUC ISD will serve breakfast and lunch at no cost to students at this central location. Students from any SCUC ISD campus can pick up a meal. Breakfast meals can be picked up between 7:30 and 8:30 am and lunch meals can be picked up between 11:30 am and 1:00 pm. Eligible students will need to be in the vehicle to pick up their meals.

STAY CONNECTED. We want you to know that counselors WILL STILL BE AVAILABLE for any student to discuss anything, although this may look a little different during this time of "Social Distancing". Below we have provided you with ways to connect with us while the school buildings are closed. Please see the information about how to best contact us, as well as contact information for crisis situations. Parents are also welcome and invited to contact us with any concerns regarding your child.

Points to keep in mind:

  • Student attendance will be verified through Google Classroom logins (the district can pull these records), teachers checking and/or grading completed work, and teachers contacting any student (or student’s family) who may not have turned in their work each week to verify that the student has access and is able to participate in remote learning.
  • Join all the Remind notifications for each of your teachers
  • If you normally receive extra support through dyslexia, 504, and/or special education services and are needing more support or help, please reach out to your teacher immediately.
  • If you requested paper copies of work, they will be available in the front foyer of the school from 9 AM – 3 PM Monday through Friday. Paper copies of completed work can be dropped off in the foyer during the same hours. The name of the student and teacher need to be included or the work may not get where it needs to for a grade.

EOC Testing Cancelled

Students taking a course for first time credit this year will have their testing requirements waived for those courses. See the document at the link below which explains this in more detail.

Free SAT/ACT Prep and Practice and Prep for AP Testing

As we adjust to this new normal together, Kaplan wants students to have the option to continue their test prep for free in a healthy, safe environment. Right now, they are offering a free month of SAT On Demand, which helps students master the exam in a little as 30 minutes a day. They also have free live lessons for the AP exams including World History, U.S. History, and Biology. There is also more in their full resource hub—including free ACT prep. Their hope is that it helps students feel a little less stressed during this uncertain time.

Great News! AP Testing Will Still Take Place This Year

The AP Program will invest heavily over the next month in the following ways:

• For the 2019-20 exam administration only, students can take a 45-minute online exam at home.

• Students will be able to take the exams on any device they have access to—computer, tablet, or smartphone. Taking a photo of handwritten work will also be an option.

• College Board recognizes that this could prevent some low-income and rural students from participating, and they are working with partners, so these students have the tools and connectivity they need. If your students need mobile tools or connectivity, you can reach them directly to let them know.
