Dear Students and Parents,
We are off to a great start for this 2019-2020 school year! Schedule changes are complete, and everyone should be settling into their classes. As the school year begins, remember to start off strong and work hard throughout the entire year!
We started the year off presenting to Government and Economics classes and speaking with Seniors about Postsecondary plans. Soon we will begin scheduling our individual senior meetings to review graduation requirements, credit checks, and individual college and career plans. As the year progresses, we will also meet individually with juniors, sophomores and freshmen to review endorsements and four year plans. These meetings will take place October through February. The four year planning process will serve as a pre-registration tool for the 2020-2021 school year. Along with academic planning, our counseling team will also offer group counseling on topics such as self esteem, goal setting and organization.
As always, counselors are available for any student at any time to discuss anything. Parents are also welcome and invited to contact us with any concerns regarding your child.
Throughout the year, we will be presenting information to parents in group meetings.
Please watch our calendar, mark the dates and events shown in this newsletter, and sign up for our Remind (as shown below) to receive texts from the counseling team so that you don't miss out on any important information. You can also follow us on Twitter to see the fun and exciting things we are doing with our students this year.

Each counselor is assigned to a gallery and has a designated group of students according to the student's last name. Students may submit a request to visit with their counselor through the gallery secretary. Students can also send an email to the counselor, and their counselor will gladly send a pass to come to their office.
Steele has dozens of extracurricular organizations that allow you to get connected to our Knight Nation. We want every student to claim one of their own! Don’t forget Community Service looks great on your resume so reach out and get involved. Watch announcements for meetings times and dates. It is a proven fact that students who are connected and are involved with the school campus are more successful than students who are not. Stop by one of the counseling galleries if you need a list of clubs or see the information at this link: https://www.scuc.txed.net/domain/1880

The College and Career Center has resources and services for helping students with college entrance, employment, career guidance, and work based learning. Ms. Pope has been working hard to schedule college and military representatives to come to our campus throughout the semester. Stop by to schedule a visit.
