When should I take your SAT and/or ACT?
Spring/Summer of Junior Year and/or Fall of Senior Year
What is the difference between the SAT and the ACT?
Both tests evaluate your skills in reading, writing, and math. However, the ACT goes a step further by offering an optional essay component that can highlight your writing skills to provide a more well-rounded assessment of your academic abilities. Additionally, the ACT also includes a science section, making it a go-to choice for those interested in STEM fields.
What are the benefits of taking the SAT and/ or ACT?
Good scores can qualify you for merit-based scholarships
A good score can help give you an edge when applying to a competitive program
If you've not earned grades in high school that reflect your abilities and you are a good test taker, the SAT and/or the ACT can be a good way to show your potential to a college
What about schools that are SAT/ACT optional?
More and more schools are offering SAT optional admission. This means that SAT and/or ACT scores are not required for admission to that school.
How do I register for the SAT and/ or ACT?
Make an account on the collegboard website and follow the instructions there to register for the SAT
Make an account on the ACT website and follow the instructions there to register for the ACT

TEAS EXAM:
Conemaugh School of Nursing is now requiring the TEAS Exam.
To register to take this exam follow this link: https://www.atitesting.com/teas/register
Passing the TEAS is a key component of getting into nursing and allied health schools, but 30% of qualified applicants are turned away from ADN, Diploma, and BSN programs. Because it’s a comprehensive exam, you’ll be tested on four different subject areas (reading, math, science, English language usage), so thorough preparation is crucial. It is recommend to allow at least 6 weeks of preparation prior to taking the TEAS.
Information on preparing for the TEAS:
Dates and deadlines to come spring of 2026
Participants will have the opportunity to establish relationships and rituals, participate in essential skill workshops, complete projects that address real-world problems, and create personalized road maps for future success. After the program concludes, participants will have continued access to support including mentorship, additional learning experiences, and peer networking.

The Spring/ Summer Before Your Senior Year
Don't forget you need 32 hours of community service- summer is a great time to get this done!
Schedule and attend College/ Trade School visits
Get out and job shadow people in careers you think you might be interested in. The best way to learn about a career is to talk to someone working in the field and see what the day to day operations of their job look like.
If you don’t know someone working in your field of interest look up local companies online and contact their HR department and request to have them help you set up a job shadow experience.
If you aren’t sure what career you are interested in, job shadow as many people as you can so you can get an idea of what different careers are like.
Figuring out what you don't like is often just as important as figuring out what you do like!
Take the SAT or ACT if you’re considering going to college
SAT and ACT scores can automatically qualify for you for scholarships and financial aid so it’s a good idea to take them
If you're interested in applying to Conemaugh School of Nursing you will need to take the TEAs exam
If you are hoping to play sports in college and you haven't already be sure to register with the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Eligibility Center https://web3.ncaa.org/ecwr3/

https://www.goarmy.com/careers-and-jobs/find-your-path/army-officers/rotc/scholarships.html
If you are planning to continue your education after high school you should talk to your family about plans for paying for that education.
The FAFSA will need to be completed in October of your senior year. Take advantage of webinars that help explain the process and more about the FAFSA
