Reading - Determine the meaning of figurative language, some idiomatic expressions; identify main ideas/summarize key points; analyze reasoning and rhetoric; conduct research based on sources; and demonstrate comprehension.
Writing - Produce coherent narratives with details using compound and complex sentences; use a variety of language structures in context-specific messages; construct written claims with reason in paragraph form; participate in written exchanges on a range of topics, texts and issues; introduce and develop informational and argumentative topics with facts, details and evidence; cite information and reference sources correctly.
Listening - Determine meanings of academic and content-specific word forms, figurative language, and idiomatic expressions; demonstrate comprehension by participating in a range of discussion topics; infer the intent and analyze the speaker's development of themes and ideas; analyze the reasoning and use of rhetoric in persuasive speech to determine whether the evidence is sufficient to support the claim.
