We are proud to inform the Scituate Community that we have adopted a High Quality Curriculum Material (HQCM) in mathematics and English Language Arts in all grade levels. RIGL§ 16.22.30-33 requires all RI school departments to adopt and implement a HQCM in all core content areas (RIDE Guidelines).
Implementation of these materials are in different phases depending on the year in which the curriculum was adopted.
The work of adoption and implementation is a cyclical progress of reflection, progress monitoring and supplementing where needed to meet the needs of all students.
Please see the Curriculum section for information and resources.
We have an amazing staff who deeply care about student learning and meeting the diverse needs of our students. To teach is to be a lifelong learner.
SSD strives to provide meaningful professional learning opportunities to all staff. We surveyed professionals to determine needs for 2023-24 school year. Additionally, we have to meet RIDE requirement around Right to Read training for all educators. This is well underway and most of our teachers are on their second year of training.
In 2022-23, we started SSD Learning Walks. This led to some amazing takeaways and direction setting. We continue with our Learning Walks this year. The data and takeaways are shared with staff and the public.
SSD wrote the School Department's Strategic Plan in 2022. We received approval from RIDE in July 2023.
As with every other school or district, we have to set goals to increase the percent of students meeting or exceeding standards in mathematics, ELA and Science. We have set our priorities to increase academic achievement, increase student and family engagement, and improve the social-emotional learning opportunities for our students.
Every school has a School Improvement Team (SIT), this is a great opportunity for families and staff to get involved in all aspects of their schools. The roles and responsibilities of SIT members have changed as a result of Education Accountability Act. Each school has also set priorities and goals, these align with the Strategic Plan. We are all sailing the same direction with the goal of improving educational experiences and results for our students.
