Creativity is magical not magic
A spectacular, stand-out, carnival-like design. A lot of its extruding personality comes from the shapes and colour, where the larger texts and their big, carnival-associated fonts are emphasised with its bright colours against the dark background (like fireworks and how they are loud and magical). The understanding of colour use is further demonstrated in how the designer has built a hierarchy with the colours: the more contrasted (especially brighter), the more 'important'. The text artwork itself is very magnificent, where the idea of 'magic' shows through the small dots, staccato as well as swirly lines and patterns that dance around the words. This entire is wrapped up with the supplement of additional (but just as important) swirls of lesser-contrasting blue (against the dark background) that add more 'magic' and dynamic to this piece.
Aloha
From an Illustrator Tutorial - this is its thumbnail aka final product.Simplistic and retro, this washed design reminds you of a feeling of going to Hawaii, even if you haven't been there. It's retro because of mostly two reasons: it uses design techniques that are associated with the 1900s, and its washed-out look. The washed-out overlay is self-explanatory, where the design looks a little worn (though this isn't necessarily bad, it makes a homely look). As for the design technique, the designer has used the displacement and blending of the yellow, red and blue that falls like a shadow behind 'Aloha' which reflects a lot of designs from the retro times (think of a surfer's shirt, or a surfboard from the 1900s (maybe you've seen it in an ad or movie)). The font used for this design is also very fitting for a design that is associated with Hawaii because of its beachy colours and round edges - reminding you of the melody of Hawaiian music, perhaps. Overall a very comforting, retro design.
Not too weird
This is a 3D design that uses many elements to create its wacky feeling. Firstly, the use of the 3D modelling allows for a very extruding personality - showing many sides and a very 'real' and 'present' (if not very out-there) look. The colours, placed all-over the shot denote craziness: teal, cyan, pink complemented by whites and such - a complimentary colour scheme (opposite colours kind of clash in a wacky (good) way). Even though it seems quite random the consistent colour scheme still creates an evident form of colour harmony. Aside from the colours, the very-obviously crazy items neatly and deliberately placed around the words do give a sense of wackiness. This wackiness placed against the 'Not Too Weird' come together in fantastic contrast to show weirdness even though the words say otherwise (like irony?).
Where This Flower Blooms
A simple typographic artwork that hints at the VSCO girl media trend in 2019 (VSCO is an app where people can edit pictures to make it look like it was taken with a film camera - sort of an 'aesthetic' editor). The round letters are very simple and casual which correlates with 'where this flower blooms' - a very neutral but also a little indirect statement. The plain colour scheme works alright - the blue repetitions of the statement clashes a little strangely, but it still works because all these elements speak this sort of VSCO girl personality - sort of aesthetic, sort of youth-y, sort of extra. Overall simple but a nice amount of casualness.
Smells Like Type Spirit
A lively typographic artwork. The shapes in this composition are smooth though not completely round - like 3D painting: it has a brush-like shape but is also smooth on the edges. This is also suggested through the colour choices for each stroke, where the hot pink, light blue and dark blue contrast with each other through brush-like transitions. In addition to this complementary colour contrast, I enjoy the subtle glow coming from the words - it supports the idea of 'spirit' and the vibrant hues. The tight composition of the letters also contribute to the 'richness' of the colour and word meaning (less space - it's 'in your face' which reflects the word 'lively'). Overall a very lively composition.
