Jacques Marchais Museum of Tibetan Art
The Jacques Marchais Museum also known as the Tibet Museum is a historical museum that is a replica of a Tibet monetary focus on Tibetan culture and its history about Buddhism. There are many old and unique artifacts such as figures, instruments, and temples found in the museum. There are also many opportunities to learn how to meditate and many other lessons/events at this location.
Founded by Jacques Marchais.
Her father was in the tea trade and her father brought back artifacts from India that made her love spiritual artifacts.
She lived next to the museum.
The museum contains a variety of different kinds of art, artifacts, ritual objects, sculptures, books, and photographs from Tibet, Nepal, Mongolia, and northern China.
These objects are finely crafted and were made for use in the monasteries of Tibet and other countries within the heart of Tibetan Buddhism.
She assembled her collection of artifacts through her connections in the artistic world which included curators, scholars, and art dealers.
Jacques Marchais wanted her collection to be viewed in a contextual setting so visitors could be able to gain a better understanding of Tibet.
The Sino-Tibetan War was a conflict that was fought between Tibet and PRC (People's Republic of China) in the 1950's. The war resulted in a Chinese victory, and during the aftermath of the war, many of the artifacts and pieces of history within Tibet were looted and destroyed due to the cultural revolution.
Because of the war, the artifacts in the museum are considered a rarity.
The museum contains over 2000 cultural and historical books.
Some of the artifacts date back to the 15th century.
The Dalai Lama (Tenzin Gyatso) visited in 1991 and called the place sacred and perfect.
The museum in 2009 was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
The Museum's construction was completed in 1947, however she died in 1948. Just 4 months later.

"I absolutely loved the Tibet Museum! [The staff] provided lots of good information about how Jacques Marchais collected lots of cool artifacts and turned them into a museum.
