Historic Richmondtown

Historic Richmondtown explores the wonders of the past, with many historical sites to see involving the people who lived in the 17th century and the 18th century. This was the site of the main government building until it made moved to the north shore. Many interesting historical locations are in this town including Christopher’s house which shows the divided loyalties in Staten Island between the British and the Americans during the time of the revolution. Christopher's house has secret entrances for spies. The tour guide told a tragic story involving a young girl and a soldier who died and were buried together during the American Revolution involving the Voorlezer's house. The soldier predicted that the girl would pass away from being ill and by coincidence, he passed away the same day fighting.

A stone house that was relocated to the grounds of Historic Richmondtown. There are small spaces for spies to hide in throughout the house.

Richmondtown was established in the 1690s. They established the county government headquarters of Staten Island in 1728. The government offices of Staten Island were relocated to the town of St. George upon its incorporation into the City of New York in 1898.
