June is Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, and Queer/Questioning (LGBTQ+) Pride Month! This month and always, the HSTAT library celebrates and uplifts the LGBTQ+ pioneers who fought for equality through art, culture, civic action, community service, and more. See some recommended books below with links to ebooks in the Sora Reading App!
Caribbean Americans have made indelible contributions to the life, culture, and heritage of the United States. Throughout this month, and always, we recognize and celebrate artists, activists, entrpreneurs, and community leaders whose roots can be traced to the countries that make up the Caribbean region. See book recommendations below! Also, visit the New York Public Library for info on Caribbean Heritage books, resources and events throughout June, including music and dance programs for teens and the whole family.
At HSTAT, we believe that reading for enjoyment is an important part of our students' personal and educational growth. Our Summer Reading Program is designed for students to explore books, read at their own pace, and develop their individual reading habits and preferences.
Details about the Summer Reading Program will be shared with students and families. For anyone wanting to get an early start, take a look at Summer Reading 2026 page on the HSTAT Library website for more information.
Happy reading!
It was a treat to host the first poetry club open mic in the library! Students and staff shared thoughtful and beautiful poems and music. So much creativity, and snacks, too!
LIBRARY NEWS
Since September 2025, we have seen a lot of growth in the library.
On average, close to 300 students use the library each day.
Book checkouts have increased by 84% over last year.
794 ebooks and audiobooks were borrowed on Sora -- triple the amount checked out last year.
Most importantly, the library continues to be a welcoming place where students can read, research, study, collaborate, and socialize. We work together to ensure that the library maintains a positive and respectful atmosphere. The students have been the most important factor in making the library the best it can be. Thank you to all!
