Rustomjee Cambridge Pre-primary Developmental Goals

Physical development refers to the advancements and refinements of motor skills, or, in other words, children's abilities to use and control their bodies.

Social development is the process through which children learn about their society and the proper ways to act within it. It is a process through which behaviors, perspectives, and attitudes are learned

Emotional development involves learning what feelings and emotions are, understanding how and why they occur, recognising your own feelings and those of others, and developing effective ways for managing those feelings.

Creative activities like drama, music, dance, art and craft are great for learning and development in these years. They can help preschoolers: develop imagination and creativity. build confidence.

Imaginative and creative play is how children learn about the world. During imaginative play, children manipulate materials, express themselves verbally and non-verbally, plan (intentionally or unintentionally), act, interact, react, and try different roles.

Kids who feel good about themselves have the confidence to try new things. They are more likely to try their best. They feel proud of what they can do. Self-esteem helps kids cope with mistakes. It helps kids try again, even if they fail at first.

Our Child-friendly approach aims to develop a learning environment in which children are motivated and able to learn. Staff members are friendly and welcoming to children and attend to all their health and safety needs.

Our Pre-primary education enhances independence and helps curb the tendency of children that are highly aggressive during group activities. Children's interactions with their peers and adults help to widen their scope of understanding and they also gain mastery of the world around them.

In pre-primary, we focus on six learning areas:

1. Environment Sciences

2. Language and Literacy

3. Numeracy and logic

4. Motor skills and physical development

5. Aesthetics and creative expression

6. Social and emotional development

All these learning areas are integrated to help the child build strong foundational skills.

At the Pre-primary and lower primary level there is emphasis on holistic development through hands-on learning using applicable materials and teaching aids. Communicative skills are developed through conversational practice, role play, journaling, presentations etc. Special story telling sessions are carried on from time to time.

Circle Time also enables the children communicate at a deeper emotive level.

Audio visual aids are used in various forms of teaching. Field Trips are an integral part of the outdoor learning process.

A unique evaluation structure has been put in place to offer assessment for learning on each student's strengths/weaknesses in key curriculum areas.

A monthly review of each child’s academic progress is maintained and kept for the teacher’s future reference. Moreover, emphasis is laid on the development of gross motor skills, physical stamina, flexibility, balance, strength, hygiene, overcoming physical fears and hesitations and the development of team play.
