Why the Debate?
Is killing killing? Apply the international terrorism definition to Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Does it count? Or were both bombings simply an act of war? After Bin Laden's 1998 Fatwah, he declared war on America. Thus in the mind of the terrorists acting on 911, were they committing an act of war or terrorism? I am not suggesting 911 was not terrorism. Nor am I suggesting anything to disrespect the victims of 911. Terrorism is complex and the debate is even more so. The prior examples presented here are to reflect on the terrorism debate.

Syed Qutib was an ideological writer for the Muslim Brotherhood. His work "Milestones" played a key role in influencing the 1970's Muslim Revitalization time period. He argued that capitalism, communism and democracy failed humanity and that Islam would save humanity from the ills these isms have created. He also played a key role in analyzing the Quran .Â
