The purpose of the Teacher Guidance page is to support educators in effectively implementing the SBCSS Employability modules in their classrooms. It offers clear explanations, instructional strategies, and practical tips to help teachers introduce, scaffold, and reinforce each employability skill. By breaking the content into manageable components, such as key traits, essential questions, “I Can” statements, and relevant terms, this page equips teachers to create meaningful, real-world learning experiences that prepare students for success in school, work, and life.
Each module focuses on a specific skill, such as adaptability, communication, or collaboration and is built to integrate seamlessly into various subject areas including CTE, English, Social Studies, or other electives. Whether used as a standalone lesson or embedded in a broader unit, the content promotes both college and career readiness and social-emotional growth.
Students engage with real-world examples, reflect on personal experiences, and create artifacts such as resumes, cover letters, or interview responses, to include in their Career Portfolios. These activities foster critical thinking, resilience, and self-awareness.
Encourage students to make personal connections by reflecting on experiences in school, extracurricular activities, or family life that relate to the skill being taught.
Use collaborative activities to strengthen communication and peer learning.
Tie the skill to core subject content for cross-curricular alignment (e.g., change in literature, resilience in history, problem-solving in STEM).
Collaborate with counselors or career readiness staff to enhance real-world application and support.
The teacher guide, presentations, and worksheets have been adapted from Oregon Employability Skills and tailored to meet the needs of our region.
