Dr. Barry Rock

Professor Emeritus and Former NASA Research Scientist

Dr. Barrett (“Barry”) Rock is Professor Emeritus in the Department of Natural Resources and Environment at the University of New Hampshire. A former NASA research scientist, trained as a botanist and geologist, he conducts research using Earth-orbiting satellites to map and monitor forest health. In 2001 he was the editor and lead author of the New England Regional Assessment of Climate Change and Variability, as part of the U.S. National Climate Assessment. In addition to his research, he has developed several K-12 STEM outreach programs, including Forest Watch (www.forestwatch.sr.unh.edu) and GLOBE (www.globe.gov). Recently, he has worked with Journeys in Film (www. Journeysinfilm.org) to develop K-12 curriculum materials for National Geographic’s television series called One Strange Rock.
