Logan became interested in the tools and technology used in drafting and design when his guidance counselor suggested these classes after his Sophomore Career study. He loved the classes offered by CHS and may want to pursue further education in mechanical engineering. At the same time as his interest in engineering grew, he began to recognize all of the similarities between this field and the plumbing industry. Logan realized that plumbers get to apply a lot of the design and engineering aspects created in AutoCAD, and they get the benefit of a hands-on learning approach with a solid product at the end of the day. This opened a new interest for Logan, and he is now in a pre-apprenticeship with a plumbing and HVAC professional where he will learn the practical skills to go alongside his technical engineering skills already practiced through CHS coursework.
Jamie had advanced through German language courses since 8th grade. He likes the language, the culture and the classes. He was able to partner with a German GAPP student this year, which really added to Jamie's understanding of the language. As he prepares for college, Jamie wanted to explore the idea of majoring in German, but what can you do if you major in German? Teach, of course! Jamie's experience learning under the teachers at CHS had been positive, and he admires and respects the job they have done to keep him interested in a tough subject for many years. Jamie arranged an ELO as a teaching assistant with one of the German teachers at CHS. He attends the German 2 class and works alongside the native-speaking teacher to instruct the class, assist students that need extra help, prepare games, and eventually lesson plans and solo teaching. He is an asset to the teacher, a role model for the students, and he is testing his theory that becoming a classroom teacher in German language would make a great career for him to pursue next year.
Maddie has been involved in the Student Actors Program since she was in elementary school. As a CHS senior, she was offered the role of student director of the Beaver Meadow School's SAP play. When she realized that an ELO for credit was an option at CHS, Maddie signed up and began her planning. Maddie will seek a degree in Technical Theater next year. In the meantime, she will practice her career goals and advance her skills in preparation for the future by directing the students in their annual play. From planning meetings, to auditions, to twice-weekly practices, dress rehearsals and the final performances of the play, Maddie will be involved. Her role will be deeply engaged with the work of theater production, and her contributions will be countless. In addition to completing an ELO, Maddie is modeling for the younger students what dedication, goal-setting and smart choices in academics at the high school level can allow you to do!
