The SMS School Counselors work to support students' career development and college readiness. Some of the ways that we do this are:
Hosting the SMS Career Fair each spring for our students.
Hosting Career Week for our students.
Working collaboratively with other teachers around career development in their classrooms, particularly with the Related Arts teachers.
Teaching students about their strengths to help them explore their passions and consider career pathways to explore.
Encouraging students to think about careers as clusters (instead of specifics) so that students keep their options open as they move towards high school and maintain a growth mindset and sense of curiosity about careers.
Connecting Social Emotional Learning to career development.
