The Sargent Public School has been involved with developing ways to prepare students for state standards.
Core teachers have helped develop on-line assessments of the state standards through an on-line assessment system called Test Whiz. Several instructors attended training sessions during the summer to develop state standard questions for academic areas of reading, math and science.
Currently, students, grade 2-11, take the NWEA achievement test two times a year: fall and winter. Students are also taking the NSCAS Reading, the NSCAS Math and the NeSA Science state assessments. Beginning in the spring of 2017 all Juniors took the written form of the ACT. The principal has attended workshops on administering the assessments and SPS has participated in piloting all the NSCAS state assessments.
All K-8 students also are using the AIMSWeb assessment program as a universal screener and to monitor their progress in reading and math. Saxon Math Curriculum is also used in students K-6.
Teachers have selected a minimum of 50 academic vocabulary words for their content area for one grade level. All K-12 students are assessed monthly with a 10-question Schoology, as well as, a Frayer model assessment.
