In this presentation-based touchpoint, students will work on geography in their World History class and presentation and persuasion skills in their English class to create and sell a new world. This project is designed to get students familiar with common argumentative strategies and using evidence to support their points. Which group will come up with the winning ideas?
This argumentative essay will focus on the impacts of the technology from the industrial revolution and ask the questions: "How did this technology change the world" and "Did this new technology benefit us in the long run?" Students will research and analyze their findings to come up with a claim where they argue whether or not this invention was a positive turn for human society.
This narrative touchpoint is designed to allow students to see from multiple perspectives. A group of 4 students will write matching narratives told from different points of view, a victim, a perpetrator, a bystander, and a rescuer. The goal, in addition to developing narrative writing skills, is to increase students' ability to see from multiple angles how a situation can appear different when looked through the eyes of someone else.
The Humanseum touchpoint is an attempt to memorialize the past and bring forward the failures and successes of humankind. We will look at both atrocities and moments of great empathy and resilience to decide what should be remembered and why. Students will write their own memorial in the form of a poem, which will be presented to the class.
