Sakura "Cherry Blossoms"

The blossom of the cherry tree, known as “sakura” in Japan, is one of the country’s most important cultural and national symbol. Blossom viewing parties known as “hanami” have been held in Japan for many centuries, and are held today in gardens and parks across the country. People meet with family and friends to eat, drink, and observe the beauty of the short-lived cherry tree flowers.

Citrus Blossoms

Citrus blossoms are white with the most aromatic fragrance. Navel and Valencia oranges, Mandarins, and lemons, are the most common citrus grown locally. Mandarin trees are frequently covered with a fine mesh to prevent bees from pollinating the flowers, which would cause the fruit to form seeds.

Peach and Nectarine Blossoms

Peach and nectarine blossoms feature pink to red petals and bloom at the same time. Over 100 varieties are grown commercially. Harvest runs mid-May to October.

Almond Blossoms

Almond blossoms have white petals. Two or more varieties may be planted in the same orchard for cross pollination by bees. Harvesting, usually done mechanically, runs from late August to early October.
