Mrs. Gillis' Classes

Art Fundamentals is our introductory art class and graduation requirement at Sanford High School. In this class, students work with a variety of materials in both two and three dimensional forms. Students gain an understanding of materials they enjoy working with. After passing this class, students can choose any upper level art class to take in the future.

Painting is one of our many upper level art classes. In this course, students will work with mainly acrylic paints with a variety of subject matter in various painting styles. Throughout the course, students gain more choice and freedom within their projects. Students learn about a variety of painters, both historically and making a living as painters today. Through their own art making and research of different artists, styles and subject matter, students begin to develop their own artistic voice.

2D Design is one of our many upper level art classes to choose from. Projects teach students about spatial arrangement, concept planning, creative problem solving and project deadlines. This course presents projects that reflect the work in a design based field. Students explore a wide range of art processes including, but not limited to painting, drawing, collage, fabric design, printmaking, digital photography and digital design.
