If students score well, they could earn college credit saving time/money in college. This link details which exam scores are accepted by colleges: https://apstudents.collegeboard.org/getting-credit-placement/search-policies
NONE!
Taking an AP class is a HUGE accomplishment! That alone on a transcript looks amazing to future schools and how students get accepted.
AP exams are bonus - "icing on the cake."
AP exam scores are sent on a separate transcript to colleges AFTER admission because it determines which courses students have already completed. So, even if they do not score well, it does not affect admission.
While SDUSD encourages all students to take the AP exam, it is 100% a student choice. These exams are several hours long and during the school day, which may require students to make tough choices on how to best use their time in the final weeks of school.
STUDENTS ARE MORE THAN A TEST SCORE! We have seen your students get physically ill or cry from the stress of AP exams. It should be their choice to test and absolutely ok if they don't!
AP made an exam order system with sole responsibility on students. SDUSD does their best to support but we need many eyes to confirm all steps for all students are completed.
1: students register themselves
using a personal email, students will make an account at myap.collegeboard.org then use join codes for each exam they plan to take
2: students pay exam fee or request reduced rates
AP exam fees are determined by AP website registration date and SDUSD offers discounts for students/families who meet the AP discount guidelines.
AP's website and call center may share information that is inaccurate for a district the size of SDUSD. Below are SDUSD's AP policies:
Any SDUSD student may take any AP exam.
It is not required students be enrolled in the AP course to take the exam.
To order an exam requires 2 steps by students:
1- Students must register themselves in AP Classroom.
2 - Students must pay the exam fee or request reduced rates.
Students who do not attend SDUSD schools may request exams but it is unlikely there will be available exam seats - finding enough proctors to meet the exam room ratios is already challenging with SDUSD testers.
SDUSD families who meet the eligiblity requirements set by AP:
their family’s annual income falls within the Income Eligibility Guidelines set by the United States Department of Agriculture (USDA) Food and Nutrition Service,
in households participating in the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program (SNAP), Temporary Assistance for Needy Families (TANF), the Food Distribution Program on Indian Reservations (FDPIR), or in some states, Medicaid benefits,
unhoused, migrant, runaway, or in foster care
enrolled in a federally funded Head Start Program
2 steps:
1 - families will complete the LCFF form in PowerSchool Parent Portal = will determine your qualification for discount
2 - fill out a google form = will give SDUSD staff permission to look at your LCFF form to confirm your qualification for discount
Results will be sent by email within a week and honored if requested before deadlines.
Exam fees are determine by the date the student registers in AP Classroom.
