As part of our commitment to the Community Schools model, we hosted two Family Math Nights on September 11, 2025 and January 22, 2026. These events are designed to support all TK–5th grade students and their families as they engage with our new Eureka Math curriculum.
Expanded & Enriched Learning Time and Opportunities
These evening events extend learning beyond the school day, providing hands-on, engaging math experiences for students and families together.
Access to Broad, Challenging, and Accelerated Learning
Activities are designed to support high expectations for all students while helping families better understand grade-level math concepts and strategies.
Family and Community Engagement
Family Math Nights strengthen the connection between school and home by equipping families with tools and strategies to support math learning, fostering a highly regarded neighborhood school community.
With a district-wide focus on mathematics and a school-wide emphasis on differentiating math instruction, these events will help families become familiar with instructional approaches used in the classroom. Teachers will lead interactive stations where students and parents can explore math concepts together in a fun and supportive environment.
Recent data shows growth in math achievement, with 27.32% of students meeting proficiency on the 2024–25 CAASPP, an increase from 23.5% the previous year. Family Math Nights are an important strategy to continue this upward trend by strengthening home-school alignment in math learning.
Funding will support:
Teacher compensation for planning and facilitating the events
Materials for interactive math stations, including cardstock, colored paper, whiteboards, markers, and other hands-on supplies
Attendance will be tracked through event sign-ins
Workshop participation will be monitored by the site coordinator
Student achievement data will be measured through CAASPP results (May 2026), available via the California Dashboard and district data systems
To ensure access to broad, challenging, and accelerated learning with high expectations for all students, our school is investing in targeted professional development for teachers. Funding from this Fund Request will provide a visiting teacher for three days for each of our 3 new teachers in Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 3rd grade for training and coaching on September 11, October 2, and October 9, 2025.
This support strengthens high-quality instruction and intervention practices that benefit all students in Kindergarten through 5th grade, both this year and in the years to come. Student progress will be closely monitored using district assessments, including mCLASS (K–2), i-Ready (3rd grade), and ELA CAASPP results, ensuring that instruction is responsive and aligned to student needs.
This year, our Community Schools-funded Guidance Assistant position (10 hours per week) continues to play a vital role in reducing chronic absenteeism at Encanto Elementary. Mr. Isaac works closely with families through regular phone calls and home visits to support students who are chronically absent or at risk of becoming chronically absent. His proactive outreach helps strengthen family connections and remove barriers to consistent school attendance.
To encourage strong attendance habits, Mr. Isaac also leads schoolwide attendance incentive programs each trimester. Students who achieve 95% attendance and 100% attendance are recognized with exciting rewards such as Water Blast a Teacher, Pie a Teacher in the Face, and Slime a Teacher celebrations. Students who maintain perfect attendance all year earn special experiences, including time in a Video Arcade Truck and participation in the SeaWorld Celebration.
In the final month of school, Mr. Isaac launched the Encanto Store, where students with no absences or tardies earn Encanto Bucks to shop weekly for prizes. Through relationship-building, family outreach, and positive incentives, this program supports improved attendance while creating a culture that celebrates student success.
Community Schools funds are being used to compensate teachers for their dedicated time and leadership in developing our updated School Site Discipline Plan. The Restorative Justice League (RJL) has been working collaboratively to create a thoughtful plan that reflects our school’s commitment to positive school culture, student support, and restorative practices.
A discipline plan is more than just a set of rules—it serves as the foundation for how we build relationships, address conflict, and create a safe, supportive learning environment at Encanto. This updated plan is designed to strengthen our school community by prioritizing accountability, restoration, and student success. The proposed plan will be presented for review and vote at our May School Governance Team (SGT) meeting.
Community Schools funds were used to purchase a Smore newsletter subscription to strengthen family engagement through improved school-to-home communication. This investment supports increased family awareness of school programs, events, and resources by providing families with clear, engaging, and consistent updates.
The Smore platform enhances communication with multilingual and hard-to-reach families by making information more accessible and visually appealing. Its user-friendly design allows our school to share important updates in a centralized format that families can easily access and understand. By improving the quality, consistency, and reach of our communication, this resource helps build stronger trust, transparency, and connection between school and home.
Newsletter is posted to the home page of our District and Community Schools Webpages.
Through the support of Feeding San Diego, along with generous donations from Life Science Cares, Encanto Elementary hosts bi-monthly farmer’s market-style food distributions for our families and surrounding community members. These events provide essential access to fresh food while strengthening community support for families in need.
Led by Ms. Clarisa, our Community Schools Coordinator, and supported by dedicated parent volunteers, these distributions require significant planning and physical effort as volunteers work hard to move pallets, organize supplies, and prepare for families each event day. Community Schools funds were used to purchase snacks, water, canopies, and stanchions to help keep volunteers safe, healthy, and energized while also ensuring an organized and efficient distribution process.
To further support this effort, Feeding San Diego also donated an additional canopy to help alleviate long wait times in the sun, creating a safer and more comfortable experience for families. Together, these partnerships and resources help make this important community support program possible.
The Nature Watch STEM Kits program in our school’s PrimeTime extended day learning program is providing 24 fourth and fifth grade girls with engaging, hands-on science learning opportunities after school. Through this program, students participate in collaborative STEM activities that promote problem-solving, curiosity, and confidence in science and nature-based learning.
Due to the high level of student engagement and the depth of each activity, most lessons are taking the full 90 minutes to complete. Additional funding for 10 instructional hours has been approved to allow the teacher to complete all 16 lessons with the group of fourth and fifth grade girls.
This program supports the Community Schools pillars of Safe, Inclusive, and Collaborative Culture; Expanded and Enriched Learning Time and Opportunities; and Access to Broad, Challenging, and Accelerated Student Learning with High Expectations for All.
