The collaborative leadership process is a dynamic approach where leaders work closely with team members, educational partners, and other entities to achieve common goals. It emphasizes open communication, active listening, and mutual respect among participants. In this model, leaders facilitate discussions, encourage diverse viewpoints, and promote teamwork to foster innovation and problem-solving.
Context:
Encanto already has a number of very active collaborative leadership bodies present on campus (EILT, SGT, SSC, MTSS). The Site Governance Team (SGT) is the democratically elected body that engages in collaborative decision making when it comes to major issues facing the school community. SGT is composited of teachers, parents, admin, and classified staff in order to ensure all educational partners voices are heard and have a say in the policies that affect them. At the beginning of our Community Schools journey, Encanto's SGT decided to make a Community Schools Team (CST) dedicated to the Community Schools work. CST, is composited of teachers, parents, admin and classified staff to also ensure all educational partners voices are heard. While CST vets and assures funding requests align with 1 or more of the 4 Pillars and our Needs Assessment (once completed), SGT is the voting body to approve the allocation of Community School Grant (CSG) funds at the site level.
Purpose:
Work together to ensure all voices are heard in the planning and implementation process of our needs and assets assessment
Ensure the highest levels of transparency when it comes to vetting spending of our site's Community Schools funding for proposed project
Work together to identify and help the continuation of working groups to address the areas of growth that arise from our needs and assets assessment.
Our Journey with Collaborative Leadership:
Created our Community Schools Team
Emails were sent out to both certificated and classified staff to aid in recruitment.
Alongside in person conversations, announcements, and staff meetings were used to further recruitment.
Our Community Schools Coordinator recruited parents/guardians through...
speaking at and holding parent meetings
using Class Dojo and school messenger
having conversations with parents/guardians during drop-off and pickup
Next steps:
