Needs and Assets Assessment Mapping
Context: As a first year Community School we are in the process of creating a Needs and Assets Map by gathering data from all members of our school community (families, students, staff and community partners) to better understand the needs and wants of our school community.
Purpose and Pillar: Identify key areas for growth and improvement within the community, and establish working groups that can take direct action and allocate resources to address the collective priorities.
Process: Conduct a combination of focus groups, surveys, and one-on-on conversations with members of the school community to gather diverse data. The goal is to understand the primary concerns/priorities of the community and identify potential actions to enhance the functioning of the community school.
Next Steps: Our Community Schools Team will look at the data from our focus groups, surveys and conversations to determine our focus.
Funds will be used to purchase traditional Mexican folk-dance attire for the Ballet Folklorico dance team, which has been using the same outfits for over seven years during school-wide performances at attendance assemblies. The new attire will allow students to perform different regional dances using the appropriate attire, enhancing their learning experience. This initiative provides expanded, enriched learning opportunities, promoting access to broad, challenging, and accelerated learning with high expectations for all. Ballet Folklorico also gives students, particularly those who don't always excel academically, another way to shine and showcase their talents.
Our Parent Volunteers have been busy setting up our Community Care Closet, where we keep food, clothing basics, shoes, uniforms and hygiene items for when our families are in need.
