Funds will be used to purchase traditional Mexican folk-dance attire for the Ballet Folklorico dance team, which has been using the same outfits for over seven years during school-wide performances at attendance assemblies. The new attire will allow students to perform different regional dances using the appropriate attire, enhancing their learning experience. This initiative provides expanded, enriched learning opportunities, promoting access to broad, challenging, and accelerated learning with high expectations for all. Ballet Folklorico also gives students, particularly those who don't always excel academically, another way to shine and showcase their talents.
Our Parent Volunteers have been busy setting up our Community Care Closet, where we keep food, clothing basics, shoes, uniforms and hygiene items for when our families are in need.
📌 Fund Use:
Funds are requested to support hourly staffing, along with uniforms that will be used annually, to build and sustain student leadership and school culture initiatives.
🎯 Purpose:
To foster a safe, inclusive, and collaborative culture while giving students access to challenging learning opportunities through leadership roles and structured responsibilities—upholding high expectations for all.
🏛 Community School Pillars:
Expanded Enriched Learning Time and Opportunity
As part of our ongoing efforts to support equity, access, and meaningful family engagement, Community Schools Funds were utilized to purchase translation headsets for use across various school events and functions.
Purpose and Impact:
The translation headsets have significantly enhanced our ability to communicate with non-English-speaking families, allowing them to fully participate in school activities such as:
Workshops and trainings
School-wide meetings and events
This investment directly supports the Community Schools framework by removing language barriers that have historically limited family engagement. It promotes inclusivity and strengthens the partnership between school staff and the diverse communities we serve.
Implementation Highlights:
A full set of wireless translation headsets and transmitter equipment was purchased.
Staff received training to effectively operate the system.
The headsets have already been successfully used, with overwhelmingly positive feedback from families.
Outcomes:
Increased participation from multilingual families
Greater access to academic and community resources
Improved communication and trust between families and school personnel
A more inclusive and welcoming environment for all community members
By using Community Schools Funds for this initiative, we have made a tangible improvement in how we connect with and support the families in our school community. We look forward to continuing to expand access and engagement opportunities for all.

📌 Fund Use:
Teachers will be compensated for 8 hours at the workshop rate to participate in after-hours professional learning with professors from UC San Diego and the California Reading and Literacy Project.
The training focuses on the Science of Reading and uses the book “Big Words for Young Readers” to deepen instructional strategies for literacy development.
🎯 Purpose:
To enhance educator knowledge and practice in literacy, and to ensure access to broad, challenging, and accelerated student learning with high expectations for all students.
🏛 Community School Pillars:
Integrated School Supports
Thanks to generous grant funding, a team of six dedicated educators from our Community Schools initiative is currently participating in an ongoing Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) training. This professional development is a key part of our work to build safe, inclusive, and collaborative learning environments where every student can succeed.
MTSS provides a structured, data-informed framework that helps schools meet the academic, behavioral, and social-emotional needs of all students through tiered levels of support. The training emphasizes how to use MTSS to ensure equity, high expectations, and accelerated learning opportunities for every learner.
To support participation, the grant is covering the cost of substitute teachers, allowing classroom instruction to continue smoothly while the team attends training sessions. This thoughtful investment ensures that our educators can fully engage in the learning process and bring back practical, research-based strategies to implement in their schools.
Aligned with the pillars of our community school model, the training is also strengthening our efforts around:
Access to a broad and challenging curriculum
Family and community engagement
Highly regarded neighborhood schools
Quality leadership and effective teaching
As the training continues, our team is building capacity to lead this important work across our school community. We look forward to the long-term impact it will have on improving outcomes for all students and deepening partnerships between schools, families, and the broader community.
