About Maria Gomez:

Maria Gomez holds the position of Area A Superintendent in the San Diego Unified School District, where her passion for justice, equity, and the well being of all is her utmost priority. She strongly believes in building trusting relationships in order to help create safe and inclusive environments.  

Professional Background:

Maria Gomez brings an abundance of experience and expertise to her role as Area Superintendent, making her an asset to the organization.  She has served in various educational leadership positions, including classroom teacher, resource teacher, staff developer/peer coach, vice principal, and principal of both Ericson Elementary and Penn Elementary. Most recently, Maria served as an Instructional Coordinator for the Growth and Development Office, where she assisted in the coordination and evaluation of coaching cycles and professional development centered around the California Standards for Teaching Profession.  Her extensive knowledge in instructional Leadership has helped shape her educational philosophy and guided her vision.

Accomplishments:

During her tenure, Maria Gomez has achieved remarkable milestones, including:

• Participation in the development of universal best practices for non classroom educators for District’s professional growth & development department

• Lead full implementation of inclusion of students with disabilities, at multiple sites

• Increased academic performance for all students, specifically english learners and students with disabilities, resulting in CA distinguished and blue ribbon designation

• Promoted a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students

• Headed the operational implementation of the closure and restructuring of a SDUSD Elementary school
