About Michel Cazary, Area B Superintendent:

Dr. Michel Cazary  serves as the Area B Superintendent for San Diego Unified School District. With an unwavering commitment to educational excellence and student success, Dr. Cazary leads the district in its mission to provide a transformative learning environment for all students. Dr. Cazary oversees the Canyon Hills, Henry, and Keanry clusters.

Background:

Dr. Michel Cazary brings a wealth of experience and expertise to her role as Area Superintendent. Dr. Cazary has been an educator for over 22 years in the San Diego Unified School District and has served students and staff in a variety of capacities - as a classroom teacher, school site instructional coach, district instructional coach, and Most recently as an elementary school principal. She is passionate about creating physical and emotional spaces that are full of love, joy, and connection where both staff and students can be their full selves. 

Accomplishments:

During her tenure, Dr. cazary has achieved remarkable milestones, including:

• Promoted a safe and inclusive learning environment for all students

• Increased enrollment with an emphasis on strong community school partnerships

• Led positive academic growth for students

• Provided leadership coaching, mentoring, and learning through multiple adult learning platforms

• Led the design and construction phases of the whole site modernization process

• supported district teams to facilitate the reopening of schools during covid with health and safety mitigations in place

Educational Philosophy:

At the core of Dr. Michel Cazary’'s educational philosophy is a belief in the transformative power of education and the importance of providing students with the skills, knowledge, and support they need to succeed in an ever-changing world. She supports other educational leaders in their own personal leadership journeys and in developing systems designed to engineer equitable outcomes for students. Most recently she has completed her doctorate, researching occupational fear and educational leadership - exploring the emotional barriers leaders face in the ever-shifting socio-political context of education.
