Using laser cutter machine and 3D printer to create a small chapes of our chose. I started by watching "How This Chair Conquered the World" video, so I decide to 3D print a chair too.
the chair page onThingiverse. com is: the chair.
Thingiverse website, was where I search and I found this lovely photo of this chair.
For laser Cutting, I pick a 2D model from 3axis.com website, and download it as a DXF format.
For the chair, it seems that I can't find the exact link but this link is the nearest on to my DFX file. The keychain..
For preparing the 3D model to be printed, I used Ultimaker Cura software to generate the G.code file, which can be executed by the 3D Printer.
Machine: Original Prus I3 MK2S
Software: Ultimaker Cura
Materials: PLA Flament.
On my visit to the Fab Lab,with great assist from an amazing instructor Ms. Amany Ayman, I Use Laser Works Software to prepare the DXF file for Laser Cutting, I use the machine to create a great dog keychain.
Machine: Morn MT3050D CO2 Laser Cutter.
Software: Laser Works.
Materials: PlyWood 3mm.
The setting of the cutting:
- cut speed 20mm/s.
- power 65%.
After download the RLD file to the Laser Cutter, I open it and Run the machine after checking the speed, power and laser nozzle.
The setting of the cutting for laser:
- cut speed 20mm/s.
- power 65%.
Photo from internet.
In order to export the Gcode file from cura, I download the chair file in to Ultimaker Cura softwarw, and choose the file dimension, the touching Buildplate support and the chair rotation.
After preforme the slicing on the software, I save it on my desktop and download it to the fab lab computer in order to start the printing process. With the help of fab lab specialist ;soory "I don't remember her name", I choose the filament color, I didn't lode the filament spool as it was ready in the machine.
I just make sure the filament power degree is 215 oc, checking the pre-heating and place of the filament, in order to start the printing processing; I use the control knob to access to the main menu, and select my file that I named Rashida and press print from SD.
kindly noted that, The following youtube links is for week 1 fabrication process.
Ms. Amany Ayman, was the one that help me and give me feedback for the entire day, so I'm faithfully thanks to here. Also, I ask lots of questions regarding my final project and how to implement it. while I was reviewing my chir in Ultimaker Cura program, Ms. Ayman ask me to change the chair interface to be in its back rather than his legs, and she helps me to re slice it with and without support in order to 3D Print it.
In addition to that, she helps me to use Laser Works program on the fab lab computer, as it's not work on my laptop, and she support me in the process of change the layer parameter power to 30 instead of 25 ,export the DXF file to the machen, and finally print this lovely dog shape.
I didn’t faced any major problems this week, but the laser work software isn't working on my laptop,so I use the fab lab computer to prepare the DXF file. Also, I share what I do with my peers on slack.
Using laser cutting machines and 3d printer, will help me create the final project outside shape and the inside pieces.
I have learned how to use the laser cutting machines and 3d printer, exporting codes to machines and adjust the file settings to suit the material and space.
I'm learning about sensors and how it works, and watched couple of videos about digital fabrication , arduino types and its functions. Also, I read about the maker diploma movement and the global practices of Digital fabrication.
