Week # - 2
Assignment
Laser-cut plywood phone holder from my design
Let me explain more (ideation)
1-First thing this idea was in my heed for along time based on my experience during watching
content on smart phone
2-I imagend what if I take 2 side from apolygon of 10 sides to make the base of my phone holdera
look at the rocking chair moves up, down
This is my inspiration at first a phone holder moves up and down for giving me a different view angle but finally I stelled on 2 angels rather than more angles so I decided to take a polygon as a guide
This image showed my
idea of taking a polygon as a guide
Tool chain
1-First sketch by hand
showing the basic shape I follow
Helps me more with imagination processes
2- digitized sketch
After hand sketching, I used the software coreldraw to digitize my sketches
first digital sketch
second sketch
3-Fusion 360
Then I used fusion 360 soft wareto convert my 2d sketch into a 3d sketch, assembly my parts to visualize my sketch
4- RDworks
after visualizing my sketch I exported my parts in DXF file format to be obtained by CNC machine operating software (RDworks)
5- Machine
Bodor cnc co2 laser machine 300 what
6- Material
3 MM MDF foil coated is my choice cheap, has a great look and texure
Preparation Process
MY design consists of 4 parts or 2 pairs (side, back)
connected together using T slots, screws, and nuts
(4scrwes 10 MM long, 3 MM diameter and .5 MM bitch ), (4 nuts 3 MM)
Side sketch
Side extrude
Side apperance
After sketching and extruding our design we move to the assembly stage, at this point we join our model together and visualize it and take the needed action if we need to improve something or something doesn't work properly
Back sketch
Back extrude
Back apperance
this video shows our model after the assembly process
After visualizing our model we export it as a DXF file format, open RDworks and import our model, and set our parameters.
parameter
speed : 40 MM / S
power : 15 %
Development Process
CNC co2 laser machine cutting a 3MM MDF
If you take a closer look at the red circle you will understand what I need to say the grove where the bottom of my phone rest isn`t big enough
So in the next prototype I will improve this point
Overcoming Challenges
1-When I was designing a phone holder in a shape like a triangle I can`t find the center of mass for my holder
so I decided to make a lo-fidelity prototype made of cardboard after the second one I find the nearst point
2- I was working with a different machine and I didn't know the right parameter
but after asking the machine operator he gives me the right parameter
