Lets try new stuff!!
3D printing idea
I try to think out of the box and choose new, challengy design for me to test new way and to learn more about different fabrication techniques so I choose to print movable part.
Actually I get inspired by a shark model I found in the lab during my tour and I wonder how it does work! Amany advised me to choose movable model to print to explore that!!
Laser cutting idea
I am a cat person and I have 8 cats so I chose to make a cat coaster.
3D Printing
I use Thingiverse open source library to find a STL file
I use Ultimaker cura software to prepare the design file for fabrication.
I used PLA filament as a material
I used prusa i3 mk2 printer in this task.
Laser cut
I use 3AXIS.CO library to find a DXF file
I use LaserWorkv6 software to prepare the design file for fabrication.
I used plywood sheets as material
I used Morn MT3050D CO2 Laser Cutter
3mm plywood
PLA filament

Prusa i3 mk2
3D Print Process:
I started with finding my lizard STL file on Thingiverse.
opened the file on Ultimaker cura
resized the design to match the 90 minute
Changed the layer Height to 0.2mm and 20% infill
remove the adhesion and support which prevent the mechanism working
sliced the design to check how many grams and time file needed to be fabricated
finally I Renamed the file and saved the design as GCODE file.
lizard model
Laser Cut Process:
I started with finding DXF file on 3AXIS.CO
opened the design file on LaserWorkv6
resized the design to set up an appropriate dimensions
Changed the the speed to 25 and the power to 65
finally I Renamed the file and saved the design as STL file.
Coaster file
3D Print Process:
first of all lab specialist make sure of my file parameters:
infill: 20%
layer height: 0.2mm
no support
no adhesion
Inserted the file to SD card then to the printer.
clean the bed with alcohol to make it easy to remove the part after printing .
"if we want to change the color of the filament we should cut the new filament with an angle."
choose preheating and wait until it reach 215 and 55 c for the bed
but while the print process some layers moved away and the model was destroyed so Amr helped me readjust settings and add adhesion.
choose the file name>>start
after the print process we use scraper knife tool to get the model out of the bed and cuter to remove the adhesion it took me 20 min to remove adhesion.
Laser Cut Process:
first of all lab specialist make sure of my file parameters:
cut
power: 65%
speed: 18%
scan
power: 35%
speed: 300%
Inserted sheet into the machine
After coping the file to PC press download .
on the machine we set origin, searching for the file name on machine screen>>press enter to start laser cutting.
Amr adviced me to make sure the design had been cut before moving the polywood sheet
now I have my cute cat coaster!!
the problem
layers moved destroying the model !
while printing the lizard file on i3 mk2 Prusa some layers moved destroyed the shape.
the solution
Amr Hassan helped me to fix the design file on ultimaker cura by adding adhesion to the design to fix it on the printer bed then after removing the destroyed parts of the bed, clean it with alcohol and start to import the file to the SD card and then to the printer and give it a try finally we do it!!
It comes true
my poor design !!!
In the final project I will definitely need laser cut and 3D print to fabricate the construction parts of my final project.
this week I learnt about flexible material called flex
