Hello, my name is Kristin McCullough and I am the AVID counselor at SHS. My Bachelor's degree is in Elementary Education from Oklahoma State University and my Master's Degree is in Educational Psychology from Texas A&M University. I have taught elementary age students and have been a counselor at the elementary, middle, and high school levels. I have the great opportunity and pleasure of helping and advising all the AVID students grades 9-12. My favorite part of AVID is seeing students apply and get accepted to college and knowing that the college education that they are about to receive is going to put them on a path to a brighter future.
My name is Diego Scott, and I have the pleasure of being one of the AVID Coordinators at SHS. I attended Cal Poly San Luis Obispo for my undergraduate degree in Biology. I currently teach AP Biology, Marine Biology, and AVID 10. I have had the honor of being a part of the SHS AVID for 15 of my 18 years at SHS. During my time in the program I have worked with 3 different groups of AVID classes, each of which made a lasting impact in my life and teaching career. During my 15 years in AVID I have witnessed tremendous growth and increasing success of our amazing program. If you are first generation college student and want to attend a 4 year university, our amazing team will help open that door for you.r the
Hi everyone. I am proud to announce that this is my 34th and final year as an educator. I have been a dedicated member of the AVID program for the past eleven years. I am very excited to finish strong with my current AVID students, the AVID class of 2026. Like my past AVID students, I know they will accomplish great feats. I am very excited and hopeful for the future. My colleagues, Ms. Hutchinson, Mr. Scott, Mrs. McCullough, and Ms. Villarreal will continue what we have already established. Quite frankly, I believe this is the best AVID program in the state of California. Congratulations to the students and staff members of the Salinas High School AVID program.
My name is Gabrielle Hutchinson, and I am the AVID c/o 2024 teacher. I was born in Salinas and attended North Salinas High School. I completed my undergraduate degree at California State University, Monterey Bay in Communications, making me the first person in my family to go to college. I later obtained my master's degree in English Literature at Southern New Hampshire University. I started teaching in 2015 and have worked at Salinas High since then. I have taught every grade level of English, but I am currently teaching 11th grade AP Language and Composition in addition to my AVID sections.
I'm Brenda Villarreal and the AVID c/o 2029 teacher.
When I was in high school I was a tutor for AVID and College Board SAT prep.
As a teacher, I'm excited and privileged to continue being an active supporter of AVID. I'm a first generation college graduate myself; I went to the University of San Diego California for undergrad, and the University of California, Santa Cruz for Grad. Being a first-generation college graduate means understanding that my access to information during my high school years were limited and the conversations around college weren't ones that could be supported by my family as they never attend college. My mother at the age of 15 officially moved from Mexico to California and spent her time focused on working to provide for her family. I want to actively support building a bridge of understanding when it comes to attending college because everyone deserves equal access to education.
My name is Emma Borrelli and I am a teacher at Salinas HIgh School. I graduated with my BA in Humanities and Communications at CSU Monterey Bay, where I also earned my teaching credential. Currently, I am working toward a Masters in Education. At Salinas High School, I teach English 10, as well as English 10+. Similarly to AVID students, I am a first generation college graduate.
