Lunch Time Sports has been going on since 2021, which was when we returned from the pandemic. Many students are interested in joining to show their sports and teamwork skills! This year many students joined Lunch Time Sports in comparison to previous years. The teams that played in this month’s matches were the UCLA Bruins, USC Trojans, Harvard Crimsons, and the Stanford Cardinals for basketball. We want to recognize our hard working 8th graders, Dominic Ranson and Ezekiel Valdes for being great help with our Stanford Cardinals. They took the victory against the Harvard Crimsons with the final score being 20-8. The game was challenging for the Harvard Crimsons because the team was mostly made up of 7th graders and the other team had more experience. Some essential winning strategies are to have a winning mindset and to build teamwork!

Meet the Art Club, one of the most talented clubs here on campus. The Art Club is a fun place where everyone can do beautiful projects. Another fact about the Art Club is that they collaborated with Dr. Aesir on painting a science mural in the D-wing. Ms. Hallet, the advisor, also mentioned how there are over 20 students that attend this club each week! The Art Club has done many paintings, but out of all of them, so far, the science mural is their favorite. The Art Club is about teamwork, because it takes a team to do those beautiful murals. This club has definitely earned themselves t-shirts with all of their hard work to help beatuify our campus! Make sure to stop by the Art Club on Fridays during lunch in room C2.

For this month’s newsletter, we have the pleasure of talking about the 7th Grade Girls Soccer Team. This year, many girls tried out for the soccer team and only 16 made it! On March 2nd, our Spartans won their first game against Gavilan View, winning 6-0. The girls soccer team is expecting to go undefeated in the tournament and in their individual games. Even though they want to be undefeated, they expect Harden to be one of the harder schools to play against. For this season, the 7th Grade Girls Soccer Team is going to have a total of 10 games. The coach, Isidro Gonzalez, says that he mostly stresses when the game is about to end and they are doing so well that any little thing could ruin their perfect score. This year's team is expecting to keep that positive mindset and push forward to win the tournament!
Who is Victoria Saldaña?

Who is Victoria? Victoria is a 7th grader who is willing to share her experience at school. One of her favorite things at school is that other students call her “sevie” because it is a fun little nickname! Her favorite subject is Science with Mr. Englund, because she likes working with her friends during class. During lunch, Victoria enjoys eating outside with her friends. She also likes to hangout by the floating boards with her friends. This year she made lots of new friends with different personalities, one of her new, and closest friends, is Jamie Salinas. Victoria spent all her elementary years at Bardin Elementary School. One of Victoria’s main goals this year is to have straight A’s. Victoria's dream job is to become a doctor. Her inspiration to become a doctor comes from Career Day! Now you know who Victoria Saldaña is, if you ever see her around campus make sure to say “Hi sevie!”

Have you met Urijah Borrego? Urijah is looking forward to high school because he wants to get away from his sister at ESMS. His favorite part about 8th grade is hanging out with his friends. Urijah will miss ESMS, but mostly his friends that may not be attending Alisal High School with him. He doesn't know if he wants to go to college yet, but it is something that we will consider in the future. Urijah wants to get a high quality education and a high paying job that he would be interested in doing every day; such as becoming a professional soccer player, join the Air Force, or be a contractor. Urijah joined our soccer and wrestling team - Go Spartans! His favorite subject is P.E because he's very active.

Let’s get to meet one of our security guards, Devin Estencion (better known as Maui)! Devin has expressed that he really enjoys working at this school. He’s been here for 7 years; which is insane because that means it’s about half of the age of most of the students here! If he had the chance he would go work at Alisal High School. Devin, himself, didn’t attend ESMS when he was in middle school but he did go to Washington before things changed there. He expressed that the students were a big part of his job. In 5 years he sees himself still being a part of the ESMS staff. If he wasn’t a campus security guard, he would be a full time video-streamer. If you ever see him with his Air-pods in, he is probably listening to rap music. If you see "Maui" around campus, say "Hi!".
