El Grito Festival is an event hosted at ESMS where we celebrate Mexican Independence. Did you know that Mexican Independence commemorates the moment in 1810 when Father Miguel Hidalgo y Costilla called for separation from Spanish rule! El Grito has been a part of ESMS for over 30 years. This festival was hosted by our amazing Leadership Club, who puts on most events and helps out around our beautiful campus. Other clubs that were at this event were the Spartans FC, Club Lucha, Wyldlife, I'm Board Club, and so many more. Food was sold to help support individuals clubs which included: hot dogs (the sausages were good), soup, tacos, ice cream, Hot Cheetos with nacho cheese, and snow cones. Students enjoyed the event and we look forward to it every year!

For this month’s sport, we focused on our amazing 7th grade volleyball team and their game on September 15th. They went against Sacred School and the game was played here at ESMS! The volleyball team was not nervous to go against them since their season had not started at the moment. The reason they have confidence is because they had practiced Monday through Saturday 6-8:30 PM and Saturdays from 7-10 AM. The girls are working very hard to win their games! They work very hard because each weekend they have about 2-3 games with other schools. Their goal is to be league champions and to be undefeated. Come out and cheer them on!

Israel’s Journey to Becoming a Spartan!
7th Grade Interview written by: Isaac Vazquez, Genesis Zamora, Jorge Aguirre, and Kimberly Rodriguez
Israel Torres is joining us this year at ESMS coming from Alisal Elementary School. After becoming a 7th grader, Israel noticed that middle school isn’t as complicated as people described it while being in elementary. Israel came to ESMS because we have a better education and closer to where he lives compared to other middle schools. Israel has joined two clubs which are the Esports Club and the Art Club. Even though Israel is not joining any sports, his favorite subject is P.E. because he thinks it is fun. Since being in the 7th grade, Israel has made some new friends. Israel's goal for this school year is to make his parents proud by having good grades. Now that you know more about Israel make sure to say hi to him next time you see him!

Staff Interview written by: Fernanda Betancourt , Castiel Betancourt, and Liliana Ramirez
Here is our chance to meet Ms. Matthews, one of our amazing English teachers! Some of Ms. Matthews' favorite things to do when she was in middle school was to read, and she was inspired by her English teacher to become an English teacher herself! Ms. Matthews has been teaching at ESMS for 2 years. She is excited to keep working to help other students reach their goals. Ms. Matthews also taught music and journalism at her previous school. Ms. Matthews wouldn't want to ever choose another job, but if she had to, she would want to be a doctor because they also help people. Ms. Matthews is very friendly and wants to help others; therefore, her door is always open - don’t be afraid to say hi!
