Hey Spartans, were back with Lunch Time Sports news! If you are wondering what sport is going on, please be our guest! The sport that is going on right now is basketball, but if you don’t want to participate in that sport, there are other sports including volleyball, indoor soccer, and wrestling during different seasons throughout the school year. The teams that usually win are the ones that contain players that don’t already play for one of our ESMS teams. The most challenging thing about hosting Lunch Time Sports is that the students that sign up to play during lunch, don’t always show up. Another challenging thing is that there are hardly any girls signing up to play. Come out Spartans and try out for Lunch Time Sports today!

Do you ever wonder what track is about? Track is an individual and team sport where you compete in speed and form. This year, about 42 students tried out for track; are you one of those track-stars? They practice three times a week on Mondays, Thursdays, and Fridays. The first track meet is on 2/27/26 at Alvarez High School; come and cheer on our stars at 4:30 PM! The requirements to join track are a good mindset and the ability to work and train hard. Fun fact about track, track and field was introduced to ESMS about 30 years ago! Our runners go against all middle schools in Salinas which include Harden, La Paz, Washington, Gavilan View, and John Gutierrez. Track is a good sport to join because it takes skills! Track also help builds a positive mindset!
Students at the Wellness Center doing a fun activity!
News @ ESMS written by: Azalea Borrego, Evelyn Sanchez, and Kiana Hernandez
Many Spartans that are taking the ELPAC test this year also deserve to be distressed by doing many fun activities! Thankfully, the staff in the Wellness Center have many fun activities to help and encourage the Spartans to pass the ELPAC. Roughly around 100 students pass the ELPAC test every year. Some of the fun activities they do during lunch time every Monday and Wednesday are drawing, making slime, and even creating glitter bottles. Their main goal is to make sure students avoid stress during the test. The Wellness Center staff noticed improvement in their mental health when completing the fun activities that they do. Everyone in the school is welcome to participate. If you are interested in activities like these, come and have some fun at the Wellness Center during lunch.
Mr. Anton is about to give the "Starfish" speech!
News @ ESMS written by: Olga Jimenez, Genesis Zamora, and Manuel Rodriguez
Career Day was a special day where students became inspired from the presenters that came to talk about their careers. The person who started Career Day was Mr. Roger Anton. The year he started this event was back in 1985 which was the very first Career Day! There were so many volunteers that came and showed students different options about what is possible to do once they graduate either high school or college. The most common job seen on Career Day was law enforcement, like police officers and lawyers! It takes approximately 4 months to plan the event, but they started setting up the night before; turning our gym into something magical. From the people who attended the event, at least 5 people were alumni from ESMS since Mr. Huerta has been the principal! Have you thought about it ... what do you want to be when you grow up?
Camila at lunch.
7th Grade Interview written by: Marley Alderete and Jose Moreno
Meet Camila, one of our 7th graders, and here are some things she is passionate about. To start, she likes to walk around lunch with her friends. Camila also told us that her favorite subject is Engineering with Mr. Kortman. Camila also said that her dream job is to become a lawyer. The sports Camila tried out for were basketball and volleyball; she wanted to try out so she can meet new people and make new friends. Unfortunately she didn’t join any clubs because she thought playing a sport was more fun than a club. We heard that Camila loves to go on field trips because she enjoys experiencing new things. People have also been wondering which Elementary School Camila attended, well she attended Monte Bella Elementary. Lastly, people were asking if she is ready for 8th grade and the answer is "No" because she is already comfortable with her teachers and classmates. Now that you know some stuff about Camila make sure to say hi when you see her!

Mrs. Giron smiling :) She hopes that you enjoyed this Newsletter!
Staff Interview written by: Ashley Solis, Justin Soto, and Kimberly Rodriguez
This is Mrs. Giron's 10th year teaching Science 8 and 3rd year teaching Yearbook. Mrs. Giron is an important member of our school because with the help of her, we are able to produce the newsletter and the yearbook using her creative skills. Out of all the topics Mrs. Giron taught throughout the years, she said her favorite topic to teach is physics during quarter 3 to create exciting labs with her Science classes. Mrs. Giron also mentioned that the hardest thing she has done while teaching is reminding herself and students it’s okay to make mistakes. On the other hand, her favorite thing about teaching is interacting with students, especially the 8th graders who are soon moving to high school! If Mrs. Giron would be able to teach another school subject, she would teach art because she is very creative. Mrs. Giron is a big fan of what she does! Apart from science, she is also very fond of the yearbooks and being able to make ESMS history! If Mrs. Giron was to switch jobs, she would be a nurse instead of a teacher because she enjoys helping people in any way that she can. Mrs. Giron said that out of all the yearbooks her favorite yearbook is this year's yearbook, that you can buy at the student store for only $37!
