My project will analyze displacement through immigration and migration and how that effects the "American dream". This project will focus heavily on archival materials from the Sisters of the Holy Cross and their time spent in the American Civil War and in El Salvador. I will also be analyzing The Jungle by Upton Sinclair and Day of the Refugios by Alberto Rios and the painting Self Portrait Along the Borderline Between Mexico and the United States by Frida Kahlo. I will be interviewing my grandmother who immigrated from Mexico, my dad, who is the son of two immigrants, as well as reflecting on my time as a second generation Mexican-American.
