I chose this quote from the Race and Religion section of Othello. What stood out to me is that a lot of people still associate white as beautiful and purity. There is a connection to the modern day because there is still a want for POCs to achieve white European beauty standards. People will curly hair will straiten it, and people with dark skin sometimes bleach it to have a lighter skin tone. It upsets me that the world is still like this. I am not white, I am white passing during the winter but I am not white. Does my tan skin make me unattractive because it is not white? Is my natural hair not beautiful because it is not straight? People should not have to ask those questions. There should be a break from white and beautiful especially now?
