I was very intrigued when Behn was describing Oroonoko. This line in particular stood out to me because people still describe a race of people based off of physical descriptions that the entire race should have. For example, black people are described to have big lips, dark complexion, and rough hair. If someone who is black does not have these physical characteristics then they are not black. I have also dealt with a situation like this where people do not think I am Mexican-American because I do not have noticeable tan skin, long black hair and curves. People are so diverse and I feel that people forget that. Not everyone from the same race look exactly the same, they could look completely different. Behn is one who believes that all of one race look the same based on this quote. It does bother me, but I cannot be sure how much she knew about this and what other people looked like who were not white.
