Spelling/Vocabulary
We have adopted a new curriculum called Amplify CKLA. This curriculum does not introduce formal spelling words until the second unit, which is several weeks away. In the meantime, we will use our vocabulary words as supplemental spelling words. Because these words serve a dual purpose for both vocabulary and spelling practice, the spelling list will be condensed.
We will focus on learning the definitions, practicing the spelling, and using the words correctly in sentences. For now, their spelling homework will be called Spelling Sentences, where we learn 5 words a day. The class will practice these words in sentences together, and then students will create their own sentences. Students will need to bring their composition books home to help complete this assignment, as that is where their words are recorded.
Spelling/Vocabulary Words (9/22-9/26):
sombreros
debonair
adorned
wail
gait
loom
clench
pores
scored
plow
Grammar
We will cover one grammar topic per week while building critical writing skills:
Punctuation
Capitalization
Complete sentences
This week’s focus: Types of Sentences
In the WIP list, items labeled GG 1, GG 2, etc., refer to the program Giggles and Grammar. These are paper assignments started in class, also noted in your child’s planner, and will come home throughout the week in their homework folder for you to review.
Note: We start GG in class, and students may finish it at home if needed.
