Acoustics 3: Basic Acoustic Treatment, Isolation, RT60/Transmission Calculations
During Class Activities
Download the RT app on your phone and calculate the RT60 for the following spaces:
Studio Control Room
Ground Floor foyer
Stairwell
Classroom
2. Complete a room transition calculation for a studio control room /edit suite and add to your LJ.
In the technical report for the virtual space created last week:
3. Show the room modes up to and including the Schroeder Frequency.
4. At which frequency do the first axial, tangential and oblique modes occur, respectively?
5.Use this RT60 calculator (note: this must be downloaded and opened in Excel. Enable macros.) to show the RT60 of the empty and untreated space with the following materials:
6. Use this RT60 calculator to achieve nominal RT60 across the spectrum (approx <0.2seconds). Note: there are three windows of double glass (3mm thick at 30mm distance):
2 x 80cm by 120cm.
1 x 100cm by 180cm.
7. Copy and paste images of the following with a short description on how they would be used to control problematic frequencies in this space:
Bass Traps
Resonant Absorber
Acoustic Foam
Diffusers
8. Add the treatment to the virtual space inside SketchUp. Alternatively, use the printout provided and draw the treatment in manually before taking a picture and adding that to your report. This SketchUp file includes the studio build (complete with walls, windows, door and console) along with some treatment and furniture ready to be moved into position.
