This unit establishes foundational knowledge of the principles of sound, acoustics, auditory perception and a range of technical terms related to audio. Throughout this unit, you will undertake three projects:
"Visualising Sound" - Audio Analysis (due week 4)
"SPL Observations" - dB Diary (due week 8)
"Acoustic Treatment" - Fix a Room on a Budget (due week 12)
During classes, you are tasked with developing your vocabulary relating to sound. This is important in all aspects of audio practice and essential for your other units.
Each week involves a 3-hour class, plus 6 hours of personal study outside of class (9 hours per week).
Complete this questionnaire in your first week of classes to submit your Learning Journal link and get familiar with the unit requirements.
Please explore the site to get familiar with the content. This includes:

As a new student, one of the first tasks getting familiar with 4 online places, they are: this Unit Site, your SAE Google Drive, your Learning Journal and Campus Online.
Through your study there are many weblinks you will need to remember. Setting bookmarks in Chrome to manage these is highly recommended. In Chrome, turning on Sync will make your bookmarks show up on any computer or device you log into with your SAE Google account. Here's instructions for syncing bookmarks (30-second read).
More advanced than Chrome bookmarks is Raindrop.io. This bookmark manager allows you to access your bookmarks on any computer or smart device by logging in to Raindrop.io - no need for syncing, and it has an intuitive visual interface.
Understanding how to use your SAE Google Drive alongside your Learning Journal (Google Site) is important for your studies. Developing a good workflow with these will make your study more effective and enjoyable. Consider browsing through the timestamps in the Google Site video below and this Google Drive video - lots of good tips.
