Acoustics 2: Resonance, Standing Waves, Room Modes, Absorption Coefficients.
Complete these class preparation tasks prior to this weeks class.
Place post-it notes around anti-nodes in the room.
Calculate the resonant frequencies for the three dimensions within your space.
Using pen and paper, describe the three different types of standing wave modes in a space:
Axial
Tangential
Oblique
In groups, measure the dimensions of one of the audio spaces on the ground floor.
Use SketchUp to create a 3-dimensional image of the room.
Use this video to assist you create a very basic 3D room. I have also created a short instructional video on how to create doors and windows.
6. Use the AMROC room mode calculator to wrangle the following information:
What are the room modes up to and including the Schroeder frequency?
Approximate the pitched notes for the first 5 room modes.
Document the first Axial, Tangential and Oblique room modes.
Research and describe these four types of acoustic treatment:
Resonant Absorbers
Bass Traps
Diffusers
Foam Panels
After Class activities
Next Week's Preparation
Do the Session 11 Class Preparation before next class.
Also, measure the dimensions of the space you want to use for your Project 3 case study and built the virtual environment in SketchUp. You'll need this before class next week!
