My advice for SUCCESS!
Time Commitment
Students need to allow 12 hours per week to complete the required work in this four unit course. As stated on page 14 of the Saddleback College Student Handbook, the formula to determine the expected amount of TOTAL TIME for success in a full 17-week semester asynchronous class is three hours per unit per week. This is a huge time commitment; make sure your schedule can accommodate it.
Students who have NOT: logged into Canvas, completed the "Syllabus and Orientation" module, posted in Discussion Board #1, AND submitted at least one CONNECT assignment by January 27th at 11:59 PM may be DROPPED from this course for non-participation.
Purchase your textbook ASAP! You will need it the first day! Feel free to take advantage of the free trial period.
Start the semester with a BANG! Put a lot of effort in at the beginning because the concepts we cover in the first four weeks are the foundation for the rest of the course.
Be sure you read and study each chapter thoroughly (pay particular attention to "blue points", "need-to-know boxes", "dark words", and the "multiple choice quiz" at the end of each chapter). Utilize the additional tools I have provided (video lecture series, PowerPoint slides, outline of each chapter's key concepts, handouts, vocabulary lists with definitions, and Homework Help Tips).
MANAGE YOUR TIME WISELY! Set aside 12 hours each week to complete all course activities and assignments. Chunk your time by maybe doing 2 or 3 hours each day.
ESTIMATION of how you should be spending your time each week: Read/Study Chapter (3 hours); Homework Exercises & Problems (3 hours); Discussion Board (1.5 hours); Review of Chapter Study Aid, handouts, outline, and vocabulary list (1.5 hours); instructor video mini-lecture series (2 hours); staying current on Canvas Announcements (Tuesdays and Fridays)/Weekly Steps for Success/Grading Comments (1 hour).
Email me with any personal questions or concerns. I'm happy to help in any way I can.
Ask questions about assignments or instructions to your classmates in our class "Cafe Lounge" Discussion Board.
Participate in all ten graded discussions! The points add up!
Complete ALL assignments before their due date. Given the time commitment required for this course please schedule your time appropriately. You will need to be self-directed in order to complete your assignments in a timely manner. The online environment gives you lots of flexibility.
PRACTICE, PRACTICE, PRACTICE! Repetition is key when it comes to mastering the fundamentals of accounting.
Be COMMITTED to your OWN SUCCESS!
