Diploma Requirements

Grade 9 students do not earn Graduation credits for their courses, but must successfully complete English 9, Social Studies 9, Science 9, Math 9, PE 9,  Fine Arts 9, and Applied Skills 9.

In order to graduate from the Province of British Columbia and receive the Diploma of Graduation, students must acquire 80 credits from a combination of grades 10-12 required courses, elective courses Career Life Connections 12 program and Provincial Numeracy and Literary Assessments.

Total Credits for Graduation (80 Credits)

Required Courses (52 credits)

 

Language Arts 10 (4 credits), Language Arts 11 (4 credits), Language Arts 12 (4 credits)

Mathematics 10 (4 credits), Mathematics 11 or 12 (4 credits)

Arts Education and/or Applied Design, Skills and Technology 10, 11 or 12 (4 credits)

Social Studies 10 (4 credits), Social Studies 11 or 12 (4 credits)

Science 10 (4 credits), Science 11 or 12 (4 credits)

Physical Education 10 (4 credits)

Indigenous Focused Course 10-12 (4 credits)


Career Life Education (4 credits)

Career Life Connections (4 credits)

Elective Courses (28 credits) with at least 16 overall credits at the Grade 12 level.


Credits from elective courses will be counted from Grades 10 to 12. When planning course selection, remember that at least 16 overall credits must be at the Grade 12 level. Some of these credits may come from required courses (like a Grade 12 Language Arts course) while others can be elective courses.

Successful completion of grad requirements earns students a Graduation Diploma from the Province of British Columbia.
