After we came back from a much needed break, we were prepared to work. And work we did! On January 13th, we filmed our last six fruit flies: 2 no stress and 4 stress no treatment. Afterwards, we analyzed all of our data and organized it into Excel (Pic 1). We counted both the number of squares explored and the number of outside squares each Drosophila explored throughout the filming period.
Later, with the data, we ran a t-test (a statistical test that determines if our research was significant) and found that we successfully induced anxiety like behavior! In addition, we determined that CBD may not have had an effect on Drosophila in our experiment. Finally, after painstakingly plotting the location of 90 fruit flies and analyzing the data, we finished our research.
Once we finished our data analysis, we began working on our poster to present at the Denver Metro Regional Science Fair on February 28 (Pic 2). This poster will go through multiple drafts and remakes before it is finally printed and ready to go for our presentation (Pic 3). We've already edited the poster countless times, and Olivia finally drew the perfect thermometer (Fig 1). After we complete this poster, we will practice our presentation skills to "wow" the judges and perform well at the competition!
