The Met Gala is one of the most famous fashion shows in the world. It occurs every year in the first week of May. All of the money earned from the Met Gala is donated to the Metropolitan Museum of Art, where the event is hosted. Specifically, the costume section receives all of the donations because they are the only department that needs to fund themselves. Designer brands buy tickets and tables totaling to $42 million this year.
This Met Gala the theme was Costume Art with the dress code being Fashion is Art. The theme was supposed to highlight fashion, art and body inclusivity. They wanted to spread body positivity. Museums displayed all different types of bodies to show inclusivity and representation. Ariana Rose Phillip was the first ever black transgender disabled person to attend the Met Gala, saying “I think it’s a huge moment for the disabled community to be able to dress the first person, first wheelchair user, and at the Met Gala.” Taymour said, describing the significance of her appearance at this event.
The co-chairs this year were Beyoncé, Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams and Anna Wintour. The co-chairs' jobs are to help Anna Wintour prepare the Met Gala. They create the guest list, influence the theme, and pick out performances. They are also responsible for interviewing the attendees.
In my opinion, Emma Chamberlin was the best dressed. She was right on theme with a beautiful hand painted gown painted by Anna Deler-Yee. Her gown was designed by Miguel Castro Freitas who was inspired by Van Gogh's paintings. Some other favorites of mine who I believe were also best dressed are Sabrina Carpenter, Asap Rocky, Gracie Abrahms, and Hunter Schafer.
Many people's looks were very bland and not on theme which a lot of people were disappointed with. I think over the years people's looks have become more underwhelming. Which is sad because the Met Gala is something fashion lovers look forward to every year. I hope in future years the celebrities start to become more adventurous with their looks and correctly execute the theme. (Who What Wear, E Online)
